I've posted this on another forum but there are so many people posting problems that most of the time posts goes unanswered:

I did a quick search on msn and noticed that hp's mfc can be had for about 1/3 the price of the xerox. I would guess that there is a huge difference in these 2 units given the prices (sorta like a cadilac vs. the lowest price chevy). does anyone have direct experience with either of these units?
the prices about $1600 for the xerox vs. $600 for the HP. I will be using this for college, work, and small business stuff. The xerox seems a bit overkill but I've heard some bad things about the hp's (shipping with low toner, the magical self detonating cartridges etc.)

so the bottom line is any feedback would be greatly appreciated I need to make a decision in the next few months.
p.s. the two models are: xerox c2424dn vs. hp laserjet 2820 color....hp is a traditional toner based printer, xerox is solid ink technology. The xerox has a hard drive and you can internet print. The hp doesn't have a hard drive and I don't know if it can print thru the internet.

I'm probably too late for you, but I'll post my comments anyhow. I decided on the HP 2820, and it's working quite well in my home set up. I've got three PCs tied to a conventional router/hub. The printer jacks straight into one of the ports. It's got print server hardware / software included with it.

Pros: great color, easy set up, good software

Cons: Watch this - I went with a 2820 over a 2840 in order to save bucks and I didn't need a fax. Downside: the 2840 comes with a 250 sheet tray attached to the bottom that is an accessory on the 2820 - I can live with that. I suspect in another couple of months I'll pop for the sheet tray.
