Inspiron E1705 questions

Thinking of ordering the new E1705. Upgrading from a Lat D810. Never seen a 17" in person. Is this thing huge or not much compared to a 15.4"? I dont plan on traveling with it. Also, is the UXGA Display with TrueLife a lot better than the XGA+? Are the fonts real small with the 1920 x 1200 Res.? Just need some opinions before ordering. It will be a desktop replacement for gaming and burning. And can I actually keep it on my lap without burning me. I sometimes use it in the bathroom. hehe..come on guys, I know Im not the only one who does this..hehe

I've had 2 9300's: one with WUXGA and the other non true life. The non truelife screen is not a bright and the contrast is a lot lower. The viewing angles are about the same, but I really like the true-life screen a lot better. The one thing that I DID NOT LIKE about the true-life screen is the hoops you have to jump through to get the font size just right. For some people it's o.k. For me it got a little old increasing the font size while I surfed the web and having some pages not render correctly.

Have you tried ClearType? When I bought my first LCD screen I thought my brain was crawling through my eyeballs tryin to read the screen. I don't think webpages were designed with LCD in mind. Either way, with ClearType everything is, well, clear!

Yes, cleartype makes things better indeed, but that 1900x1200 resolution on a 17" screen is pushing it ever so slightly. OT: I managed to get my hands on a Sony Vaio Laptop and man does my Dell screen look like total refried beans! I don't know how they managed to get such a bright screen in a laptop like that. Oh yeah, silly me...they charge you about $400 dollars more than a comparable laptop from anywhere else.

i went to BB and Compusa to check out laptops...i never realized how huge the 17inch screens were

Dont get me wrong they were beautiful...but in all honesty I should have waited for 15 inch LOL...just dont see myself travelling wtih this at all.

all the 17 inch there had 1440x900, and that resolution IMO was perfect, I cant see how you can go any higher. Unfortunately no other laptop there had 1920x1200 to really compare.

I did get WXGA on mine, only thing I wish it had was the true life but oh well
