He also said reformmating wont do anything, even though i was hit with a virus last week. He said if i ran a scan on it and was able to delete the file, then it means im not affected. He also said, if it was the virus that it would happen more often and sooner, not in 12hrs every week or so. Does he have a point here? |

I doubt this was caused by a virus, but its possible. New viruses pop up all the time and its possible that if you were infected by one, you could still be infected by another that is not currently addressed by your antivirus definition files. What was happening on your system when it overheated? Where was it? As others have mentioned, having the system's vents blocked, even partially, can cause serious problems for some systems. If your system sat there for 12 hours and completely randomly shutdown...thats pretty odd. By default, this system should be dropping the CPU speed when its not in demand and probably turns off the hard drive after a period of time, even while plugged in. |
