9400 Benchmarked

post #1 of 19
Thread Starter
There were not a lot of reviews or benchmarks available for this thing when I purchased it, so I thought I'd help anyone trying to decide on this notebook. I'll keep updating this post with pictures and more benchmarks as I go along. If anyone has any benchmark requests, let me know.

First, here are the specs:

Intel T2500 Core Duo (2ghz)
1GB DDR2 533
80gb 5400 hd
7800go (250mhz core, 658 gddr3 mem)
8x DVD burner

Here's what I've benched so far:

Super Pi:

1M = 30s
2M = 1m 17s

3DMark03:

7800go @ 360/840 = 12695

3DMark05:

7800go @ 250/658 = 4052 (81.98 drivers)
7800go @ 360/840 = 5550 (81.98 drivers)
7800go @ 370/860 = 5764 (81.98 drivers)
7800go @ 375/920 = 5922 (83.90 drivers)

3DMark06:

1440x900 7800go @ 360/840 = 3068
1024x768 7800go @ 360/840 = 3745

Aquamark3:

7800go @ 360/840 = 75,618

Cinebench:

2xCPU = 544

CSS Stress Test:
1440x900, 4xAA, 8xAF, all other settings as high as they can go.

250/658 = 82.29 fps
360/840 = 114.80 fps

F.E.A.R.:
1024x768, 4xaa, 16xaf, soft shadows ON
computer = maximum
graphics card = maximum

Stock clocks:

min = 17 fps
avg = 28 fps
max = 65 fps

below 25 = 42%
25-40 = 44%
40 + = 14%

OC'd 360/840:

min = 24 fps
avg = 39 fps
max = 89 fps

below 25 = 3%
25-40 = 68%
40 + = 29%

FEAR won't recognize any 16:10 resolutions for me. I can manually set it in the config file, but then it customizes my graphics card settings when I start the testing So I left it at 1024x768, and set both the computer & graphics card settings to MAXIMUM. For anyone who's played this game & tweaked the settings, you can see that it wouldn't take much to make it playable at 1440x900 with some sacrifices like lowering the AA and turning soft shadows off.

SISoftware Sandra 2005 Lite:

CPU Arithmetic
Dhrystone ALU = 18079 MIPS
Whetstone iSSE3 = 7255 MFLOPS

CPU Multi-Media
Integer x4 iSSE2 = 37833 it/s
Floating Point x4 iSSE2 = 41930 it/s

Memory Bandwidth
Int Buff'd iSSE2 = 3780 MB/s
Float Buff'd iSSE2 = 3792 MB/s

Futuremark PCMark04:

PCMark Score = 6029
CPU Score = 5786
Memory Score = 3901
Graphics Score = 6751
HDD Score = 3149

more to come later...

Nice.

How about SI Sandra memory bandwidth and CPU benches and PCMark04?

Did you do a fresh reformat or something else. Because I oc'ed my 7800 GO to 375/890 and my CPU has the same specs as you, I can only get 5195 for my high on 3dmark 05. Plus my 3d mark 06 scores are almost 1k lower than yours.... ~ 2800 or so . Any advice for how you boosted your scores? Also what'd you use to oc your 7800?

Excellent. I like that core duo. Those score are roughly equivalent to a desktop running with a P4 at 3.8GHz or a Pentium-D running at 3.2GHz. And everything is 50-100% faster than my 9300.

I didn't do a fresh reformat...I just did a major cleaning. I stripped it down to the bare os, and then installed my apps. Your low score might have something to do with drivers. What drivers are you using? I'm using the 81.98's.

I use Rivatuner to OC.
post #8 of 19
Yeah, I'm using the 83.60 v 2.25 drivers and I'm also using Rivatuner. Probably going to try and install the new 83.90 v 2.25. hopefully that'll help.

I'm trying those right now

5550 3dmark05 is a really a nice score

I hit 5922 in 3dmark05 @ 375/920 with the 83.90 drivers today. I tried several times for 6k, but couldn't hit it. I might have to try some cooling experiments just to hit 6k...then I'll be happy.

Yeah, this 7800go has a lot of potential. Can't wait until someone figures out how to slap on a better heatsink (like that found on the GTX).

From the reviews I've read, the XP2 M170 with the 7800GTX hits 6500 in 3dmark05, and 14500 in 3dmark03. At 5922, the 9400 is a darn good alternative for a gaming notebook. And with a little better cooling, and possibly some voltage increases, it could go toe to toe with gtx.

Only a Bench of 3DMark05

with OC 400/900 Mhz and 1,3Volt @ 3D Modus , modded Bios

post #14 of 19
Wow, 6000 in 06 with a Core Solo? Nice job there man.

I also want to add that there has been a couple people who have managed to hit 8k with a 2.4ghz pinmod and 7800GTX; whether in an XPS M170 or a9300.

care to share more details about the process of flashing the bios? I've done it on many desktop cards, but never in a laptop. Any different? Can you just use the same bios editing & flashing tools that you use on desktop cards?

Check out the thread he started...

I noticed the OP had his resolutions set below the 1280x1024 (IIRC) that '06 usually uses, what type of LCD does he have?

It's 05, not 06.
