Dell is Replacing my 9300 with a 9400!

I bought my 9300 via EPP. After about a month or so of owning this thing, one little problem kept appearing and that was a strange one with the graphics (discussed elsewhere in the forums) where the screen goes all crazy as if there was a vertical hold (like on old TV sets) that was out of whack. The only cure was to power down . The problem never happened when I was using it, but would happen when it sat and when the screensaver would kick in (didn't matter which). I use standard Dell drivers....no tweaks. I don't overclock the GPU either. I had the GPU replaced twice, and the MB once, but it was still there. The last time I called Dell, they said I would have to send the PC into their depot. I told them that I wasn't going to do that as I bought the Complete Care coverage. I contacted my companies Dell rep and told him the problem. He escalated it to a gent that asked a few questions and reviewd the service history. He told me that he wanted to give me a new 'puter and usually they do refurbs, but since my service history showed some persistent issues and because I purchased it through EPP, he would replace my 9300 with a new 9400! Well....as of Tuesday, the order went in and is already in 'Testing'. I can't wait! I really love the 9300 and so I don't expect any huge issues with the 9400.

any pics or better description of the video issue? My XPS does this bizarre thing with it's video on rare occasions, you've got me worried.

Sweet! Too bad you had to go through broke laptop hell to get it though. What are the specs of your new system? Did they give you a core duo?

@phyrewall,
There is already a thread or two about this issue somewhere in these forums. I will try to find it and post. Someone else took a photo of the problem and posted it.

@spiderkhan,
They matched, as close as possible, my original configuration and so what they came up for me is:

T2400 processor (1.86GHz, 667MHz) Core Duo
60gb, 7200 SATA drive
WSUXGA Screen
512mb ram (I have 2gb from my 9300 that I can use)
Dell Wireless 1390
Dell Bluetooth 350
nvida 7800 Go
cd-rw/DVD

I had a PCMCIA TV/Video capture card that I sold to a friend as the 9400 does not have a PCMCIA slot and so I bought this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1 on ebay.

Yes....DUO!

I'm not sure what ithe problem is, but I will not complain about this! If it is a common problem across some of their platforms, I wonder if anyone has had the same on the 9400/E1705's yet with the 7800 video card. I will have to see when I get mine (today) and watch the forums for others.

I have been working with Dell over this issue for the past 5 months or more....

They've replaced my video card 3 times and even sent me a video card to replace myself. The only time the error did not occure was when I had nothing on my laptop...and that's including the updated drivers and such.

Well, anyways after a nice long frustrated conversation on the phone with dell (which I always try to keep my composure, but in this case I think I let it slide a little), they decided they would replace my laptop. Well, see how long it takes them to send me a laptop in the mail...or if it even goes through. After this crap I have lost faith in Dell.

I am going to have to agree with what someone else said, I think this problem has to do with software and LCD issues. I've pretty much solved the reason why my lap top keeps freaking out and it has nothing to do with the video card.

I have reformatted my computer and started installing programs very slowely. Just the basics at first. After I installed a program I'd wait a few days to see if the problem occured again. Which the problem did not occur again until I installed a DVD program (Win DVD). The problem is that Win DVD runs in the background and I never realised it. So I changed the settings and boom....haven't seen it since.

After that last occuring time is when I called up dell. I'll see what kind of laptop they are replacing mine with. If it's better then it makes up for all the headaches I have had after being on the phone with them. The op of this thread is lucky, I have been dealing with dell for far to long for me to say anything nice about them.

So if you are having problems like I did check to see what programs are running in the background (and you aren't using them) and see if that helps any.

Edit: Just checked on Dell's website and they shipped the new laptop out today.
