i may have only a few posts but the point is most people in this thread wouldnt know how to test a cap to find the voltage and mF value.

like the few who said i have eyes, clearly dont know that almost all SMD caps have no markings at all.

that being said.... who has an XPS board lol!

somehow i doubt i can convince my friend who bought an xps at the same time as i bought my 9300 to let me take his apart and solder on his working mobo.... then again he has accident coverage haha.................... =-\

ill ask!

i wanna figure this mod out, i know a TON of people want to do it. im in it for the novelty value of finding something new that no one has done before. it just sounds like a fun project for me. i like to tinker

edit: HAHAHAHAHHAHA he said ok LOL. he asked if it voids his warrenty.. if not he said to go for it. his LEDs are messed up(by dell servicing his laptop) already so when he comes home in about 2 weeks for spring break ill break out the solder iron and take his laptop apart. at the very worst his leds wont work.. which they already dont do properly. so no harm done.

Hi All,
I am back from Flordia. That drive sucks from Delaware 16 hours. None the less. I took some pics, I will have to get them posted. Some of the laptop with the lights on, and a few of the old i9300 Motherboard. I don't know how much I can store on photobucket and if I can even remember my logon and password. None the less, I will have the pics up Friday night.

I see the flamage going on in the thread... didn't meen to start any wars.

btw, Disney was great. A lot has changed since I was there for my Honeymoon 10 years ago.

Hope these come in use; i took them when replacing palm rest. I couldnt find the XPS logo led slot. I have these led's and thinking of attempting to soldeer them on.
This is where the sockets should be for led's

Hi All,
Well.. I am back from vacation. I have some pictures to share. I am not the best photographer but here is what I have.

You will notice the 3 red LED's resting on top of the keyboard. Dell was nice and accidently sent me extra System, and Video fans for the XPS so I took one of the LED boards off and pluged it in to the Deck Lid LED plug. I don't know what I want to do with them yet. Maybe backlight the keyboard? or put status lights on the hinge cover. I will come up with something.

I also have very high-res pictures of the i9300 motherboard so if you want them, you will have to PM me.

I managed to buy a dead inspiron 9300 PCB and graphics card for 5£ on ebay. Has anyone got any detailed schematics on the xps gen2 so i know which resistors to take of ? and what there value is.

thats what we need to find out.

pugs said there is a mis ox caps and resistors so we need someone with an xps board. or a schematic of the xps board to figrue it out.

if nothing can be found in the next ~week im going to be desoldering the missing parts of my friends working xps laptop and ill test the parts and report back as to what they are.

9300 mate!

I will be able to get almost and unlimited amount of resistors and caps in most value. Im guessing that if a cap is need its likely to be a 10nF one just to control a IC.

We will see when me 9300 board comes!! Hopefully i will be able to be the first person to have a real 9300 > XPS makeoveR!!

-giga lan though
