Did you try Acoustic Management?

9300 has been discontinued and they only had the 9300S out for a few weeks in November, if I remember correctly.

Seagate because the speed is extremely close in real world useage, and the Seagate is vastly less noisy.

However that's just my $.10

Vastly less noisy? My 7K100 is almost inaudible in full crunch mode over the system fans. I have Acoustic Management enabled. Before enabled AM, it was noticeably louder than the Fujitsu 60GB 5400RPM, but after was just as quiet or even more-so. I wish the sound benchmarks and people's opinions would take that into account and state whether or not they were using Acoustic Management or if they even knew about that feature.

Which are pretty loud on an XPS. I cannot hear the Seagate in my Precision M60, which has a fan that also is almost inaudible from a normal distance. And, yes, my hearing is perfect.

I know about the feature, and I was comparing the Seagate to the Hitachi with acoustic management.

On the other hand, have you ever made a direct comparison between the two drives? If not, what precisely is it you are complaining about? As I said before, both are very good drives, and there's arguments for choosing either one over the other.

What is the speed difference between SATA and PATA?

Don't you need a PATA hdd if you want to overclock the cpu/fsb?

I have the 60GB 7200 RPM version and just ordered the 100GB yesterday. Dual booting with Vista takes some room!

The speed difference would be a non-issue considering you're never going to get to 150MB/sec on a single drive anyway, SATA or PATA.

As for overclocking, the voltage change only affects the CPU, and the 533Mhz FSB is within system parameters, so you're not taxing the motherboard, and ergo the PCI bus, at all, since the board can run safely at 400 OR 533Mhz, because it makes the necessary adjustments in hardware.

...only if we could clock our boards BEYOND the 533Mhz spec would you be correct in asking if there was a danger to peripherals.

And to answer your question succinctly: No, pinmodding your CPU won't affect your HD, SATA OR PATA, in the least.

I have the hitachi 100gig. You have to listen pretty closely to hear it. It's running like a champ. I didn't know how fast this thing booted until I played with my old I8200. I like it. Good luck.

I just installed the Hitachi 100. I would say the noise level is medium at stock settings. I can say that it definitely feels faster than the 60Gb 7200. I had a fresh OS load on both and it definitely boots and runs a little snappier.

Both are excellent drives, I just opted for the cheaper drive with the longer warranty, it made sense to me...

The i9300 doesn't support SATA, it's PATA...!?!....
i am using the sata version. Upgrade to Hitachi
