Blue Screen of DEATH! PLEASE HELP

Hey you all, I havent been on here in a while but about 2-3 days ago while surfing around I get a blue screen of death with the title *irql_notless_than* or something similar. Well since I was undervolting I decided to restore factory volt ratings and it went along fine until about 10 min ago and it happened again. Both times it happened I had audio playing... so I have taken out my Audigy 2 to see if that fixes it... any suggestions???

No idea whats causing this. I've been having the same problem myself. It not the Audigy as I've removed that and still have the error. I'm using the XTreme-G NVIDIA drivers and have thought about changing those back to the Dell drivers to see if mits a driver issue. It is annoying since I find it happens mostly while gaming and playing audio.

btw.. I've only got the Audigy driver installed. None of the extra crap has been installed.

Yeah, I figure it may be hardware related, which is OK because I am still under warranty but I dont want to go through the hassle of getting it fixed...

Well undervolting/overvolting will have no bearing on an IRQ conflict. You need to go thru your Device Manager and check the IRQ's being used by Game/Audio/Video/Peripherals. If there is more than 1 device trying to use the same IRQ, uninstall both items from the Device Manager and reboot.

If you experience the problem again, then your computer may be forcing an item to use a virtual IRQ/Comm Port when it requires a physical (less than 16) address.

How can I see if there are any conflicts?

Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager

It's bad if you see yellow or red icons on your hardware.

I took out the underscores and found a document that said it is usually because you are not using "signed" drivers or drivers that arent supported by windows... but its weird that It has went so long and its only having trouble now... I havent changed anything that I can remember.....

Yeah I've Googled this for months and have found replies stating it was either an IRQ conflict or a video driver issue. I dont have any IRQ conflicts so I'll have to remove the modified 7800GTX drievrs and install the Dell drivers and see if that helps.

Uninstall both your audio and video hardware, then start off with default drivers. You may not get a decent resolution or sound quality, but if the error doesn't repeat... then it's the drivers.

IRQ conflicts are old stuff... way back in the good old non-plug-n-play days. =)

Thank god the new systems now-a-days can handle different hardware on the same IRQ! A few years ago I built a desktop with the ABIT NF7-S mainboard and and every it seemed that every peice of hardware was sharing an IRQ. Was kinda cool actually.

I had this BSOD (or sometimes, the zigzag wallpaper from Hell) problem when I clicked a link to a Java'ed site.
e.g. http://www.greengiant.com/

Problem solved by uninstalling eXtreme-G drivers and replacng with Dell stock VC drivers.

odious.. yeah I've been meaning to do that.. Been too lazy to do it though

maybe over the weekend.

Welcome the ReaperDude.. I should add that I used Driver Cleaner Pro before I installed those dell drivers.

EDIT: Also, never had a problem with the 81.87s from laptopvideo2go, either. But I don't game, so either driver version is fine for me.

Since its not an everyday problem I'm not too concerned with it since I'm pretty sure its not a faulty hardware issue. I may get this error and reboot one a week. I simply let it reboot then reboot manually again then continue with what I was doing.
I know.. I should try to resolve the problem. I've downloaded the Dell drivers and will try it this weekend.
