I used to be able to burn flawless Audio CD's with my laptop. A while back, I had to send the laptop in to have the CD=ROM drive replaced. They sent it back with one of the HL-DT-ST DVD+RW GCA-4040N drives. (I cant remember the original drive, but it wasnt this thing..)

Now when I burn audio CD's, I get skips in the discs. I am using the same OS (Windows XP Pro SP2), same burning software (Nero 6.6.0.16), and the same media (Optimum, Memorex, Maxell, or Verbatim). The only variable is the hard drive, which I replaced with a drive that is spec'd faster. (100GB 4200RPM Seagate).

Could it be this CD Drive?I have been reading very bad things about this drive on the web. I asked HP for an update to the ROM on the drive, but they do not list one.

If I have to buy a drive, what should I go with?
