710m conversion?

Anybody with a 700m successfully convert it to a 710? I wonder how difficult it would be. The keyboard doesn't look too challenging but what about everything else.
Forgive me, but why would you do this?

Heh...this is hopefully a joke

Yeah, I mean... the cost involved. That's just don't make sense.

There is no diff between the 700m & 710m besides the keyboard is now white on the 710m.
Research the owner's manuals for the 700m &710m, the specifications are the exact same component for component and they even share a common BIOS...

well maybe the original poster just wants a grey keyboard rather than a white one.

I thought the 700m had a 400MHz bus extreme graphics 2 integrated motherboard compared to a 533 GMA 900 in the 710

Nope. Read the 710m Owner's Manual .pdf linked above...

Winner

I like the look of gray, but maybe it's not worth the money.

MitchellO's pic of his 710m.

700m has a black keyboard and the trim is white instead of silver (looks the same as a i6000). I have a 700 with a 710 grey kb.. looks a lot better.. just gotta find someone whos willing to trade...

I'm in socal and would prefer the 700m's black keyboard.

I'd be willing to trade if any only if your black keyboard is mint, as I just got my laptop in yesterday

Not a big fan of the 710m w/white keyboard either...

Is the keyboard more of a white than gray? I like the way the gray keyboard blends with the silver of the laptop. Also the gray rim around the laptop looks quite nice, better than the white ones on the 700m.

here's a tip if you guys want a new keyboard for trade. Just email dell complaining about a squeaky keyboard and do an exchange.

I like the black keyboard way better than the grey or white one on the 710m.

Anyway, it wouldn't be hard at all to change out the keyboards. On a lot of Dell's systems, you need to take out the keyboard to install more RAM in one of the slots, and when I did this, I thought it would be a pain, but it took me like 5 minutes to do it.

I personally like the black keyboard better as well.

It is super easy if that's all you're changing though. 10 minute job, tops.

If the white keyboard was lighted, it would be kinda cool tho...

I wouldn't mind swapping my 700m black keyboard with you but seeing that your 710m is brand new, I would suggest that you are better off buying the 700m replacement keyboard, keep your original 710m white/grey keyboard & do the swap. My reasoning is that no one has posted pictures yet of the swap if any one here has done it so you never know how the keyboard swap looks. I mean who knows??? You may think that the black keyboard on the 710m looks good but until you have seen it, you just never know.....

my i6000 and "i705m" 700m + 710m keyboard never liked the black white silver combo so i got the kb done..

I like it better than the 710m because i like the white trim more than the silver.
