As the title says... Any deals for external hard drives under $100? Doesn't really matter if its 5400, 7200, SATA or ATA. (But obviously whatever is best for the deal.)

look through your local adds. sometimes bestbuy or circuit city has 200GB for less than $100 with rebates and stuff or you can build your own with an external enclosure.

then go to newegg and get a 320GB 7.2k internal hdd for 110dollars you ready to go

I'm not sure if I want to build my own, but I will look through the local ads. Thanks
post #5 of 29
Building your own isn't really building, it's more like putting a hard drive in a box and connecting 2 cables to it.

Yeah go the enclosure route, it's so easy and knocks about 40% off the total price.

umm ahhhh... *trying to resist* Actually, your thead title says greater than $100... Sorry, I am a math teacher. Couldn't resist.. I'll be good now...

Now, back to something actually on topic. Have you checnked out http://www.newegg.com? I buy all of my computer stuff there. They have excellent support and they ship fast as well. Anyways, good luck!!

Int. HDD

And would there be anything else I would need?
i got a 250 GB WD 7200 for 79....
You realize your title says for more then 100 dollars? as in Greater then 100 dollars? BTW I picked up a 200GB Maxtor Harddrive for only 130, I was quite happy with it.
I would suggest getting an internal hard drive and then putting it in an external enclosure. Most of the external drives, such as those from Maxtor, only come with a 1 year warranty.

Going back to my original question, if I choose to go the route of buying an internal HDD with a case, how do I make sure it will fit and be compatible.

BTW rep will be given for good deals.

All internal HDD's for desktops are 3.5". It is a form factor standard, (laptops use a 2.5" standard - smaller more spendy).
SO what you need to buy is a 3.5" HDD of what ever size you want.

Like this one for example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144338

Then buy a External HDD enclosure for a 3.5" drive like this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817145162
or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817609002
but it is fanless so can cause issues...

And slap them together, Voila

Compared to : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144385
Now there are cheaper ones for sale but when it comes to HDD's I dont cheap out on no name manufacturers.
Remeber prices all vary as do materials and colors. Also make sure you read the interface type. Like the one I posted uses USB to connect. But they are very simple and can very cost effective compared to buy one "Already assembled" for more money and as one stated earlier internals sometimes have better warranties.

PS I just used Newegg.com for an example, shop around and might find better deals.
