Operating System Not Found... - Page 2

I also think it must be the hard drive controller, because the drive works fine in my desktop but not in my Sager. Guess I'm going to have to find out from Sager how much it will cost to fix it.

I just got my 9890 back today. 5 mos. old and "operating system not found" displayed. I freaked out and feared I had lost all my data! Sent it back to Sager for repair. Got it back in 3 days. I'm in S.C. Sager is in Calif. Problem was bad solder connection on ATA controller, what ever that is? No lost data! But to be on safe side I told them to install 2nd H.D. in order to duplicate everything as I work. The only problem, I'm told I have to start all over to use two H.D.'s. I have to format the existing H.D. and make a clean start using two H.D.'s. Now how am I going to do that and not loose any data or screw up?
Any suggestions?

Not true...... entirely...

If you wish to install RAID-1 (two disk - one cloning the other) that is true; however, if you just want one OS Disk(C) and a Data Disk (D) - simply right click "My Computer" and select Manage - then Disk Managment. You will see the new drive there and can partition and format it for use.

Could you expand on that a bit? Wouldn't it be better to have a clone to be on the safe side?

RAID-1 - either Hardware or software is the safest because it provides a clone. Unfortunately, the hardware RAID-1 requires a reinstall of the operating system. I believe that you can establish a RAID-1 Software raid within WIN XP without reinstalling everything - just haven't done it myself.

Guys,
just an update, It was faulty disk controller, since it is integrated with the motherboard ,They swapped out the motherboard with a new one.

I was suitably impressed when I found out this motherboard is a newer version with variable fan controller speed..fn +f2 to control speed.
Got a quieter laptop now.

I am in Australia and cheers to ITC in perth WA for prompt and expert support.

Seems like the harddisk controller is faulty. On cold starts, it often finds the harddisk once..but when hot it will not.

Anyone esle got anything esle to add, I am gonna contact the supplier and hopefully get it fix.

The hardisk interface is very close to the CPU, where most of the heat is generated, I suspect the cable or the controller might be affected by heat.
