MJ-12 m7700a - 64 bit WinXP

Thread Starter
First of all, to all of those who submit to this forum I just want to say thanks, because not only is the information/feeback invaluable some of it is just hilarious!

I am looking to purchase a MJ-12 m7700a maxed out. I will be working in Africa doing on-site video editing/production, 3ds Max animation, After Effects, Photoshop, and last but not least MS Flight Simulator.

Has anyone had any experience using 7700 in a 64 bit environment with Windows XP x64 or even with a beta of Windows Vista? Checking AMD, MS, and Nvidia's websites all say that the hardware in the 7700 is designed to work with the next generation OS. Of course MS says that games will play better in the new 64 bit environment, but I know to always expect a level of marketing hype. Just looking for some real-world feedback.

Lastly, is it possible to get any more memory than the 2GB from Alienware?

Thanks again for the responses in advance.

I am looking forwward to placing my order for my "rig" when I return to the states in March.

I have read very little about the 64 bit envior, and Win XP 64........but I can tell you this Micro Flight Sim runs amazingly on my 7700....I think until games come ont to be played in that specific enviornment...we will not know...congrats on that order...you will absolutely love that rig, be sure to get the 3yr warranty to protect it....call AW on the memory thing but I think the answer is no, I recall a post about that some months back...but call to make sure

I have tried xp x64 and worked perfect, no problems that I found with it. I never did find the raid drivers that would work so just ran it off one hard drive (didn't mess around for very long). The reason we are stuck at 2gb is there are only two memory slots on the AMD motherboard. As far as I know they don't make 2gb sticks of so-dimm either (quick look at a couple online shops) so we are stuck at 2gb. It's a great laptop, you will love it.
