i have almost lost faith in dell notebooks,

My 8600 just died after just 18months, it looks like dell systems are not reliable that is why they insisting on extended warranty.

Just to give you my personal experience - i had one fujitsu system didnot fail at all, i used for more than 5 years without any system problem..

THe dell systems will always have manufacturing defects... looks like, because the components will minimum have 5-10 year life time, but dell systems are failed to perform more then 1 - 2 years, looks like they are not doing any reliablilty tests or they are using low reliable components.

why would a motherboard fail in just 18 months...............

Thanks

My 5150 fell apart just about every other day. I want to kick the living crap out of Mr. Dell if I ever see him in person for building such terrible products then having the worst customer care in the world to deal with this crap.
I will never ever buy another Dell computer in my life.

Well I use a dell400 in my police car. Thing is great. I sit it on hot hood write reports, it is in a stand that vibrates pretty bad. Has not failed yet, battery last maybe a 10 minutes after a year in hot vehicle in Florida weather. I usually leave it in the car charging. However I did just buy new XPS for wife and the screen is horrible compared to the work labtop.

our ship just upgraded about 350 of our computers. we were using old dell gx1, probably from the late 90s. they still worked, although very beat up. also have a bunch of old dell laptops that still run. they're pretty stable.

My family has a Dimensions desktop we got about three years ago. It's on all the time and has 4 different users and it's still sharp, never had to reformat the disk or replace anything. I just go through and clean out the registry, run scans and stuff every few months. The ribbin on the DVD drive seemed to work itself loose a couple of times, however that happend, but other than that, no trouble. Actually does pretty darn well considering it only has 512 RAM. With the Radeon 9800 card I put in, it's taken all the games I could throw at it up untill the FEAR demo I check out last week. (the cpu is a P4 2.4)

I also have a i9100 XPS which I bought used from a friend. It was great untill the motherboard went out and I had to deal with CRAP service from Dell's "out of warrenty" department. They are a bunch of idiots over there.

I have a new M170 now. All 3 system have shown great overall build quality and software / OS stablity.

I always get the new stuff......I dont have old ones

I owned an i9100 for from the time they were released until this past December when I sold it to a friend. It ran great the entire time, and I have no complaints about the reliability of the computer.

I've had my i700m for about 7 months now, and this thing is tough as an ox. My only problem with this notebook is the poor performance of the Intel wireless card (well documented by others on this forum), but I honestly don't use wireless enough to really care about this issue.

If Everyone Has A Good Reliable Dell System, The I Would Imagine, Dell Must Have Shipped A Defective Product.

And Regarding The Price, Yes It Was Expensive - I Paid Around 1600$ On This Lap Top, I Could Have Bought Different Lap-tops For Around 1000$ From Different Brands, It Was 18 Months Ago, But Now I Don;t See Dell Is Special When Compared To Other Brands.....

Get over it man.
Yes bad luck it only lasted 18 months, its no use posting and reposting on these forums,no forum member is going to feel sorry for you and give you another laptop, its like your wanting some sort of magic answer to your situation.
Contact Dell and tell them how you think it was a faulty part and you think it should be replaced for free 6 months out of warranty, you never know, they might do some sort of goodwill claim or something,I wouldn't hold my breath though as they give a 12 month warranty for reasons like

A.The inspirons are cheaper than the equivilent latitudes/precisions which have a three year warranty

B.where do you draw the line as far as replacing out of warranty items,18 months,17 months and 1 day,3 years,10 years.

C.Dell can't give warranty on things forever, they don't know how something has been used, you might have used it a couple of times on a bed or something and blocked the air vents by accident, damaging the system enough that it fails after a certain time frame,or you could have overclocked,I think they and every other brand work on the theory that when something is new, consumers tend to look after things a lot better than when they are a couple of years old.

I've had bad luck with HP products, but I don't have the cheek to think that the warranty I accepted at the time of purchase doesn't apply to me.
