The 10% is a sure indication that you have the wrong MediaDirect reinstall CD. You have the 9300/6000 CD. Probable was in the box with your WinXP DVD, I had the wrong one too.
The good news, you don't need it unless you install a new HD. You can't delete MediaDirect even if you wanted too.
So delete any and all partitions you desire.
Format using WinXP
Install WinXP using the DVD
At the end of the XP install you'll see a flashing 30 min banner, DO NOT TOUCH!!!
Make a bootable repair CD, from the DL Dell R113024.exe
Insert the CD, turn on and click F12 many times
Arrow down to the CD drive and boot into DOS
Do you see an F: prompt, if not make another bootable CD
repeat as necessary
At F: CD MD2
DIR you'll see Repair.bat [you are now in heaven]
Prompt comes up, arrow to okay <enter>
Done! takes less than 2 sec.
Remove bootable CD
MediaDirect now works.
