i was having problems on my 1210 with mediadirect and having separate partitions for my mp3s and vids...now i finally got it all to work except for one thing. when i press the MD key from within windows, DMX starts and i am able to select videos from my D drive...however, when my 1210 is off and i start MD, i dont even see D:, which is where all my vids are located. ill probably just have to put my vids back on C: but i was wondering if theres an alternative...ive tried searching, ive read this whole thread...still havnt got this thing to work to my liking...can anyone offer some solutions?

Help!

When I put the cd in to boot it it, I got to the 3 partitions, now, I have an option to 1) Set up windows on the same parition xp was already on, or 2) install a partition in the unpartitioned space, 3) Delete the selected partition (which would be windows xp, the second partition on the list) Which one do I do? Do i do number one or 2. ALSO, what is the difference in doing a quick format to a normal format.

Thanks

One closed the chat on me because I was arguing the the repair cd wasn't the reinstallation cd, second said no, third said I would have to buy it. FInally the fourth said okay. One thing I noticed on the 4th though was that she was XPS support, not standard Dell.

when you say "fix" the media direct button, do you mean make it so if the computer is off it will load media direct instead of booting up the os?
i deleted all partitions when i did a reinstall and of course it boots up every time i hit the button. i tried fixing it once, but something went wrong and it wouldn't boot windows, so I had to reinstall again. Any chance that will happen with this dell repair utility?

I would like to know how can I reassign the Media Direct button to the Dell Media Experience.

I got my Media Direct button to work offline (not on windows) but while I am in windows, the button doesn't launch anything.

Thank you. I am sorry If I am repeating a question which has been already asked.

Have you installed the "Quickset" software that's inside the Reinstallation Software Disc?

You may wanna give it a try.

My MediaDirect has just gone nuts. I can use the MediaDirect button (lappy off) and Media Direct would launch, however, it wont load. It would just hang at the "Dell Media Direct" boot up screen with the intel logo at the bottom.

It's stuck here

Just when I taught I can use my lappy normally, Media Direct goes nuts.

I just installed all the appz which I normally use on my lappy. Took me since morning till now.

And when I turned off my lappy to try Media Direct again, it fails me. How disappointing.

So, guys, any idea how I can fix this problem?

Is Media Direct the most cumbersome and problematic software ever?

At least the button still works in windows. Launched my Dell DMX app.

I know this is old news and I just sent this messege to costalcarolina but maybe it would better help here.

I've been reading thru your posts and I too have been having problems with dell media direct and unless you have these already I have some answers.
Here is what worked for me on my e1505\6400
the repair utility uses the first partition on the drive (factory set to 55mb from dell) as the primary boot partition. it puts the information needed to boot do either windows (power button) or media experience (neat little button on the left) after that you can install windows how however big of a partition you want. I've done some reading and apparently Dell uses HPA on its SATA drives (pretty sure just the SATA could be wrong). which they install media direct to, and since it is in HPA you can't get to it. so if you have the dell HD that came with media direct
Partition HD with 55mb (1st)
then your primary C: drive
unless you have a third party software you could also run the installation cd create the 55mb partition then run the repair utility and go back to reinstall windows (doing which will make the 55mb uninstallable so that the first drive is your C: drive.
after you have installed windows run the repair utility again. shut it down and press that neat little button again and it works (at least for me) all media direct apears to be is a fancy version of cyberlinks software its not really MCE its just given an NT os boot for a single program.
If you don't have the Dell SATA HD the same steps should work with the exception of running the setup for media direct before running the repair utility. to do this I fould that if I set up the C: drive (I prefer about a 10gb for windows and leave the rest, or if you like one large drive leave 1308-1450 as you suggested at the tail end of the drive and run the install program it will allocate the space for you and install ( I have noticed on rare ocasions when this doesn't work setting up any partition other than C: with 1308mb of space or more as the X: drive will do the trick, it will install on this drive, then remove the drive letter to keep it hidden from windows) then after running the repair viola, back in business. now the last issue I had was with the button in windows. Now to get Dell Media Experience to work in the windows environment you have to reinstall it. where to get it I don't know I was unable to get it from dell (they just sent me a new HD, which allowed me to "play" and figure out all of this wonderfull information. yay dell!!) so I am now trying to procure a copy of the installation disk "evil laugh" other than that I hope this helps you guys.

If anyone wants the setup file for Dell Media Experience feel free to post or PM me. Maybe someone can host the file if there's enough demand for it.

Is there any chance i could have the setup file? ill even host it if you want...

Thanks

I Have an xps m1210 that origianlly came with xp. I did a clean install of vista. Now media direct button only loads the vista partition, not the media direct partition.

I booted to a dos startup disk and ran fdisk. It seems that all partitions are there (50mb repair partition, 10gb recovery partition, 100gb os partition, and 1.5gb media direct partition). I tried running fdisk /mbr but it said innsufficient memory. Also, it seems that vista writes its own different type of MBR that can't be edited by fdisk. I also tried to run dsrfix, but this left the computer innoperable (I had to run vista repair at startup to have it rewrite the MBR). In fdisk I could see that the start sectors for the os partition and the media direct partition were exactly the same (in my case 1028). This is the problem...But I don't know how to fix the MBR under vista. Can anyone help?

Hi there,

Could anyone please help me solve the following problem?
Let me, first of all, inform you that I actually step by step followed the instructions put on one of the threads of this forum in order to install MediaDirect 3 with Windows Vista. Indeed, it worked perfectly! But then something went wrong when I recently ran a wrong upgrade/patch for my Dell printer 924 that I downloaded from the Dell's website in order to make my printer work with Vista. In fact, the upgrade/patch messed up with MediaDirect 3 and removed it from Windows. Now, the MediaDiect 3 botton is still working if I press the MediaDirect button when my laptop is turned off but MediaDirect 3 is not working anymore in Windows! I mean MediaDirect 3 is not opening anymore if I press the MediaDirect button or if I click on the MediaDirect icon on my desktop when my laptop is turned on!
As a matter of fact, I tried a system restore but it didn't help! And when I also tried to re-install MediaDirect 3 for Windows by running 'DELLKIT.EXE' after exploring the MediaDirect 3 DVD and after opening the folder 'DELLKIT' inside, I got a message saying 'MediaDirect is already installed on your PC. Please click Esc to exit'!
Do you have any idea about how I eventually can repair it and make it work again when the system is turned on i.e. with Windows Vista?

Thanks in advance and kind regards,

peteriiino

N.B. Additional information on the printer upgrade/patch I mentioned above.
