Dell Warranty & Complete Care

So I got a free laptop from Coca-Cola and I want to purchase 3 years warranty + Complete Care and I was told I have 30 days from the ship date of the laptop to purchase the complete care part of the warranty.

But now when I call in to purchase it Dell tells me that since complete care was not purchased with the system initially I can't get that coverage.

Anyone know how to get around this? Two dell warranty reps told me I could purchase the complete care coverage within the first 30 days and now its a no.

System came with 1 year RTD warranty.

You should be able to purchase the complete care. I bought my XPS Gen 2 and within two weeks I had to contact Dell to get an LED repaired. However, I didn't want to send my laptop into the depot so I contacted the Warrenty Dept and had my warrenty upgraded from a Send to Depot to At Home Service. At that time, the rep offered me the complete care package, which I took advantage.

I suggest you contact Dell again and ask again. If they say you can't upgrade it, I would escalate the issue.

I talked to a manager and she said she would love to sell it to me, but she can't the system doesn't let them. Note I'm in Canada, but that shouldn't be an issue.

30 days from Ship date is Feb 26, 2006 and they are closed on the weekends.... Looks like I'm screwed.

Warranty

Complete care is for accidental damage. This is not an option after it has left the Dell plant. If you didn't buy it when you got the computer you are outta luck. You can however upgrade to the at home service for $69 a year. I think they have discounts on the 3-4 year plans. I tried my hardest but they wouldn't budge on the complete careplan.

Sorry but your info is not correct. I ordered and received a DELL 9300 from the outlet and after if arrived and I fully checked it out I called DELL and upgraded to a four year warranty. The rep then asked me if I would like to add complete care. (which I declined)

maybe it is restricted to this notebook since it was free.

Wrong

Sorry but you are wrong! Call back and get the deal again. Won't happen. Someone made a mistake. You say you declined. That's no proof. And, Dell outlet is diff. than dell home. I know the above because I tried many times to get the complete care after I recieved it. You can't say it wasn't true unless you bought it from them after. My bet is that if you had said yes you would have been put on hold shortly after and then returned with a very nicely put " I made a mistake" speech.

Seriously...in the past you can add complete care within 30 days of purchase...that i know for a fact since i have done it before...

this was my first DELL purchase in a year....maybe the policy has changed but the rep did offer it to me...in fact when i declined she started to try and sell it...i don't think she would have done that if she was wasting her time....

Did you happen to get her number or name? I would love to talk her into some complete care.

Try

Thanks. I'll give it another try through her. You never know? That's how the first 252 7800gtx was bought. Through a mistake and unknowledgeable rep? I'll let you know this week if I get time.

your welcome...good luck

Good luck too!!!

sounds like you missed the date...was the lappie from coca-cola directly, or did it ship from dell directly? that would make a big difference. if coke had the lappie already and then shipped, the purchase date would make it outside the 30 days from invoice date.

well if it was free, and you had an issue the money you spend would be the first you've put into it right? your still in good shape from where i'm sitting

How did you get a free laptop?

Well I tried again, no dice. The rep was very sure that unless you buy Complete Care warranty with your laptop when you order it there is no way to get it after. Order date was the 25th and ship date was the 27th and I called on the 24th, so I was inside the 30 days anyway you look at it, cept it didn't matter since they will not sell the warranty after the initial order. Course since I didn't order the laptop, I never had the option.

The laptop was shipped from Dell Directly to me.

As for how I won it, Coca-Cola had a contest running in Canada from Nov-Dec. 26, 50 days, 1 laptop given away every day at a random time. To enter you enter pin numbers online though out the day to see if your pin is the first one entered after the winning time is randomly chosen. If so, you win. If not you can try again, max of 50 pins a day. The pin numbers were on Coca-Cola bottles or you could get them the NPN way.
