Just a heads up... I picked another one of these up at Fry's today. Good price, no rebates.

I'm sure the price is dropping since the new ones are coming.... but hey, the 5400 100 gig Seagate is a pretty nice drive and for $139 that's a great price!

The price should be good through Monday. (in store price, I'm in Dallas/Fort Worth Texas area)

for another $70, you could buy the seagate momentus 7200.1 (i.e. 100gb @7200rpm)..mine is on its way from yesmicro.

Yep. Or the Hitachi Travelstar:

yours for only 50 buck more. That's a buck for every 36 RPMs. Run, don't walk to receive this great offer!

yeah, with computer components, there will always be the "But for a little bit more money you can get xxxxxx, or for a little more, you can get yyyyyy...."

I'm just saying, for 139 the 5400 100 gig drive is a good deal. I don't want to spend 200 or more for a 100 gig drive to use for storage...

Wait for Seagate to kick up production of their Perpendicular Recording drives. They do have a 160gig 5400rpm Drive that is as fast as a 7200rpm drive. The down side is the price and availability... both of which suck.

100gb to 160gb? that isn't worth the expense. realistically, you should be wanting to upgrade HD with at least double your current size, otherwise it is a waste of money.

i'm not sure if i'm all that sold on the 7200rpm 100gb drive i have. just installed everything and doesn't seem to be all that impressive.
