I am currently attempting to re-install a belkin wireless network card into a colleagues aforementioned laptop, via the PCMCIA slot.
I am using a laptop with a completely fresh install of windows XP installed (with no other software).
All is well with the software installation until it comes to physically inserting the hardware.
Device manager tells me that I have an "Error Code 12" fault, saying that there are not enough resources to run the device, and other devices must be uninstalled/disabled before the new device will work.
I have tried disabling all non critical hardware to no avail.
I have updated the BIOS of this notebook, again with no joy.
Upon speaking to Belkin (never again), they tell me it is a problem with the vendor, and as such, cannot offer any support.
I have tried the card in my partners laptop, and it installs and configures without any problem, so I know the card is not faulty.
I have trawled the microsoft knowledge base, and it only offers generic solutions (disabling other hardware etc)
I suspect that it may be a BIOS allocation issue, but by entering the BIOS on this notebook, it only offers me basic operations for altering the BIOS settings.
Incidentally, this device worked fine when initially purchased for about 3 weeks before failing with this fault.
As already stated, a fresh copy of XP has been re-installed to eliminate any software problems.
A reply/solution to this problem would be very greatly appreciated, as it's now causing me sleepless nights!
The slot is a Texas Instruments PCI 1410 slot. (Incidentally, when I disable this in device manager, the power LED lights up on the wifi card)
Many Thanks.
Steve.
