A few E1705 Questions....

I have been searching for two days now and still have a few questions. I just received my e1705 yesterday. This laptop is huge. I do not know if I can adjust, but if I can get it workink right it may change my experience. Here are my specs:

E1705
T2400- 1.83Ghz
1 gig ram 667
80 gig hd
Truelife screen
dvd-rw
bluetooth

Questions:

1. When I change the display to 1920x1080 I can not read the text. It is too small and I tried to change this but had no luck. How can I change this?

2. When I get on the internet, the webpage does not cover the whole screen. How can I change this display to fit the entire screen?

3. How can I change the brightness of the screen?

Thanks.

Don't have an E1705 but I can answer:

1. Go to Display Properties (right click desktop) and go to Settings/Advanced/General - increase the DPI setting there to 120 or more - that'll make text/icons etc larger while maintaining the WUXGA resolution. You can also control this from the Dell Quickset icon in the systray.

2. That has to do with the coding of the webpage and I'm not sure there's much you can do. Most pages are designed with an 800X600 or 1024X768 resolution in mind so as to be compatible on the most people's screens without needing a horizontal scroll bar. I'd say just get used to it, or resize the browser window so that it doesn't take up the full screen.

3. Should be the Fn (function) key and the up and down arrows on the keyboard.

OK, I followed step number 2 and it did make my text and icons bigger, but when I open a webpage I still cannot read the text on the webpage. The text on the webpage is super small. Any other suggestions. thanks

On your web browser,ie: Intenet Explorer click tools, then select Internet Options. In this screen click on accessibility. In accessibility check box for "ignore font sizes specified in webpages". click apply and ok, and that's it!

That work like a charm. Now if only I can get the toolbar larger. All the buttons on the toolbar are very small. I am trying to keep the display in 1920x1200 resolution for clarity reasons. Even the pop up windows that pops up when I change the resolution is very small. So far I cannot decide if I like the e1705. thanks

If you're having that many problems, run at a lower resolution. No reason to kick the laptop to the curb because the resolution is too high.

BTW, You'll get used to the size of the E1705, I have.

What resolution are you running? I think I can get use to the e1705. It is getting better the more I tweak it. Thanks

1680x1050. My eyesight ain't what it used to be.

Remember you have 21 days to return your laptop. I'm wondering if I should return mine to upgrade to a core duo setup. Sorry, that's totally besides the point, but what I mean is that you can try and get used to it, and if you don't like it, send it back.

I have one more question. I am trying to adjust the touchpad and cannot find any adjustments under the mouse settings. When I go to control panel and click on the printer and mouse icon i get this error message (unable to connect to the synaptics pointing device driver). Thanks
