8204 grey lines on LCD - Page 5

Not a stupid question. I struggled with it for a second. I used my digital camera in macro mode as well. But you can't get to close or it will be just as fuzzy as it would be if it weren't in macro mode since there would be nothing to focus on. At least that's how my Canon functioned. So once I backed off half a foot it was able to focus sharply. Then since it's a 7.1 mega pixel I was able to crop it up close.

Falafel, did you manage to get that Q screen replaced on yours?

I originally sent in my laptop for the buzzing noise and some light leakage. They replaced all the internals trying to fix the buzzing noise. They replaced my screen with the Q screen.

Unfortunately I still have the buzzing noise, but i'm still working on it.

I can't tell the difference between Falafel's Q screen shot and czm2000's LTN screen shot. I have the LTN which has the grey lines and took a picture. I was looking for the row of greyer pixels but can't see it in the pic. I can easily see the grey rows just looking at the LCD with my eyes. Am I looking at this wrong?

Here's my screen shot:

Maybe if you took a picture with a solid colored area? I don't know about the grey lines much as I never noticed them, even with the old LTN LCD I had.

You know what I think it is, if you get too close you can't really tell. You have to back out a bit to see the pattern. It's definately there. The more I stared at it the more I got confused. Then I hooked the laptop back to my SyncMaster 242MP and didn't see any lines, went back to the 8204 and they were quite clear then. Actually the notebookforums site really shows the horizontal lines quite clearly on the 8204 whereas on my external, can't see any lines.

I'm hoping to reach my CDW guy tomorrow and see if he can swap me. I'm worried I won't be able to because I think it's 30 days and when I called him last friday to do it it was 32 days out. Waited too long to see if someone got it resolved here. Well see ...

My 8204 has arrived back from repair and been delivered to my office. I'm going to go now and see if it has the Q screen. I'm quite optimistic as this trip to Acer took 3 weeks compared to 5 days the last time where they replaced it with another LTN. Hopefully during the 3 weeks the Acer techs noticed and discussed the problem and ordered in better panels...I didnt receive the usual text message saying my laptop had left the repair centre so I think it might have gone down different channels. Anyway less chat and I'm gonna go see.....

Incidentally, having swapped panels bewteen my D800 and 8204, I think a large problem with the Acer's screen is that the inverter is a bit substandard. Now that the Samsung panel is using the Dell's inverter it is noticeably brighter than it ever was in the Acer. The lines and poo viewing angles are still there though...

I don't know about you but i can see the same grey lines on that Q screen....

I'm assuming you are refering to my pictures?

If you could point them out, because I don't notice any. Maybe it is because of how close I took the picture.

yup
i dunno this is about as much as i see on my screen, and only up close. now i realise i'm more pissed off about the dim-ness overall and the dark corners and slight light leakage..

made it greyscale to see it easier

I can't see that when looking at the screen from a normal distance. Only way I can see the lines is by taking a macro shot of the screen. The screen is crystal clear and sharp, I have nothing bad to stay about it.

Falafel, you originally said it passed the grey line test. Are you now saying the Q screen does not?

here it is again:

Both those squares look exactly the same.
Is it bad that on my laptop as I'm looking at the graphic from indie that the squares are changing as I scroll up or down...

EWB, yep thats the problem.

Falafel, cool thanks for confirming so quick.
I'd say it's "bad" to the extent that it bothers you in your use of the system. Mine shows the issue, but I'm 99% happy with my LCD. If there's some verified fix, then perhaps one day I'll send in for the repair (when I can afford to give up the notebook for a couple weeks, perhaps when I'm on vacation or something)... Until then, I'll just overlook whatever it is I can't notice unless I'm specifically looking for it.

interesting, and somewhat hard to believe considering that you can see the grey lines on your image... you got adobe gamma and brightness/contrast set up properly and viewing it at 1680 x 1050 resolution? Either way, glad you are enjoying your screen!

Yes everything is set up properly. Those two squares are the same shade of grey regardless if I scroll up and down.

I do not see grey lines in my lcd at all. If my LCD had grey lines, believe me, i would be able to tell.

Like I said before, I tried the test that was provided and the crankycat test which both passed.

Are you using your mouse's wheel to scroll or the scroll bar on the side? Using the wheel on my machine it looks like I do NOT have "the lines" issue (which is really an interference pattern), but using the scroll bar on the side - which is capable of finer increments - I most certainly DO.

Just wondering...
