Horizontal tearing on video overlay and games...

Hey folks,

I have a couple of problems:

I'm getting tear lines when video files are playing, it happens in xvid and wmv files, I haven't checked dvd's.

I also get similar issues in games, Half Life 2 for example won't play on full spec at 1920 x 1200. Should it?

Finally, the video overlay controls don't seem to have effect in the nvidia control panel. I've got my old i8600 side by side and the video overlay is a lot brighter. The whole screen is bright apart from the overlay.

I'm on the default install, stripped of all the dell bloatware. Haven't managed to format + reinstall yet because I don't have the media.

I'm using the XTreme-G MobileForce 83.20-v2.25.exe drivers. Default clock speeds.

1.66 GHz Core Duo, 2 MB L2 cache, 667 MHz FSB
1024MB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
80GB (5,400 rpm) (TOSHIBA)
17" UltraSharp™ Wide Screen WUXGA (1920 x 1200) (Samsung SEC5557) Display with TrueLife
256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 7800
Windows®XP Media Center Edition 2005

I'm also a little bit unhappy about the light leakage, but I understand this clears up a little with time?

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

For the tearing image in your movies try using windows media player or enable vsync on your nvidia control panel or check your players config, most of them have an option to stop tearing.

As for half life, the problem is that that native resolution of the wuxga is just insane. I doubt you can play hl2 @ max and smoothly with such a high resolution and with stock clocks. Try lowering the resolution or lowering the video settings.

I recommend the mobile force 81.97. They have given me the best performance compared to the newer ones.
