Dell E1505/6400 link - Page 2

Is there something special about being in BIOS setup when running down the battery? Can't I just run it down while using it until it shuts down?

In BIOS, no power saver features or Standy-By or Hibernation modes can kick in. The system will run and full power draw until all juice is gone. Once you get into Windows, the machine will shut down before every drop of power is exhausted.

Great philosophy. I assume you work for free as well? How's that laptop gonna "pay for itself"?

'Without booting windows' is total BS. It boots a modified version of windows, you can tell by the splash screen. MediaDirect is evil... evil!

Well Echilon... Dell had to come out with a response to Toshiba/Acer/Avertec/HP/etc having "Media Laptops" that could play DVD's and music without actually booting up and thereby having longer battery life as just a DVD player.

So how long do you think the battery will last if you were to use the laptop as a portable dvd player (no OS boot) only? This would be nice when your traveling and just want to watch some movies on the plane if it does save battery life by not loading the OS.

You could expect an additional hour of battery life. During the lack of real CPU/RAM usage you are still drawing alot due to the constantly running DVD motor.

A little late on the reply but:

WUXGA on a 15.4" laptop is quite nice. Just don't keep the screen too far from your face. I got a D800 with that screen the day they were released and it's served me well.

I'll be interested to see how it compares to the WUXGA E1705 that should be delivered tomorrow.

Sweetness!

DavidinkS, an additional hour is what other "MediaPlay" products gain in battery life.
