Ferrari MAJOR issues

So I have had multiple issues on this computer, like build issues (headphone jack broken, part of screen messed up, worn out keys, etc), but im having some major software issues. i already had a HD wipe and a new HD sent out, and just lately had a major issue that was cured by updating the bios. but now, i am having another issue

basically after doing absolutely nothing, all of a sudden the computer is really slow. like everything lags, like its running major apps except nothing is doing it. i have norton and a antispyware running, but that cant be it. any ideas?

Hi there,

Even though you said that Norton and antispyware software can't be behind this, but according to my experience they can really slow down a PC. Okay, here's a suggestion. Why don't you try and turn them off for a while (stay off-line at that time) and see what will happen?

If the computer is still slow, you may want to re-install chipset drivers.

Other things that come to my mind are:

- CPU is throttled down for better energy effciency
- "windows restore" is still on and taking resourses
- windows autoupdate
- HD is almost full
- registry needs to be cleaned up
- insufficient amount of memory for your programs

If none of the above is behind your problem, I would really consider about reinstalling the OS. Good luck!

First check in task manager you dont have any processes going at 100% cpu.

Otherwise it sounds like your HD is in PIO mode. Go in the device manager and under IDE ATA/ATAPI view properties on the primary IDE channel. If device 0's current transfer mode is PIO then try changing it to DMA. If it doesn't change to DMA then you need to force it by right clicking the primary IDE channel and uninstalling it. Then reboot, and confirm it has gone back on DMA. Windows switches it to PIO when there are a certain number of read errors on the HD.

the only reason i say its probably not norton is that it has never happened before. it just all of a sudden became slow, even if i reverted it with goback it didnt change

- CPU is throttled down for better energy effciency
its not
- "windows restore" is still on and taking resourses
not on
- windows autoupdate
not on
- HD is almost full
its not
- registry needs to be cleaned up
its not
- insufficient amount of memory for your programs
i have 1 gig and its currently at half of that

indiekiduk you are a genius. only problem is, now it is uninstalled, and not sure how to get it reinstalled. that did make it faster though, thanks!

If you are referring to "indiekiduk"s post about re-installing the Primary IDE channel, then it should of already been re-installed when you booted back into Windows.

You can check this by going to "Device Manager" and making sure you don't have any yellow or red flags.

Good to hear that you got your problem solved! Too bad to hear you had so many problems with your Ferrari, though. The buttons and stuff. The build quality may not be as high as we would like it to be.

So far my F3200 is in relatively good condition, but the display bezel is cracked on the lower right corner. *sigh* Nothing that some superglue wont't fix, but...

woops you shouldnt have an exclamation. Try rebooting again, or if that doesnt fix it try uninstalling it and rebooting again.

Failing that you could look at the general page and paste here what the device status says. Then perhaps we can help you fix it.

indiekiduk just saved my life!

i hava been having this same HD problem for almost 3 months. Thought it was ram, cpu, spyware, virus, and everything else under the sun, but i just couldn't get it fixed. changing it back to DMA just fixed all my problems. you are truly the man. btw, i'm assuming you listen to indie music, what are you into right now?

i really can't thank you enough. (just a side note, is there any downside to putting it back to dma?)
