Sony SZ better then anything else?

Let me preface by saying that all day I work with Dell & HP laptops, and personally own a Dell 700m right now. I've also "touched" an Apple MacBook Pro in person. And about 5 hours ago I ordered a Sony SZ series. Why you ask?

Well first off they simply are the nicest looking laptops I've ever seen. My local CompUSA & Best Buy both have SZ110's in stock and they are simple beautiful. Even compared to an macBook they are asctecially superieur. I think personally it had to do with the brushed aluminium, but overall I really can say its the nicest looking laptop I've set my eyes on.

One thing that I think stands out in this forum is an aura of elitism: when people talk about Sony laptops they expect the 2nd coming of Christ. Despite the advancements in that area, its just plain not going to happen: I can tell you from personal experience that the SZ screen is better then any Dell I've ever seen, and that the keyboard is better then any Dell I've ever touched. is there room for improvement? Hell yes there is. Is it the best "portable" on the market right now? I would say so.

Personally I had resolved myself to ordering a Dell Latitude D620 when they came out, but seeing the Sony SZ in person gave me a nerd-gasim. The SZ really is that hardcore.

I have my sz110 sitting next to my 700m right now and the 700m clearly has the better screen. Anyway, after doing some tweaks I have the Sony display looking much better than it did 24 hours ago when I took it out of the box. I am satisified and will be ebaying my 700m shortly.

What kind of tweaks did you do to the screen to make it look better.

What kind of tweaks did you do? One thing I hate about my 700m screen is that it's soo difficult to see when light hits it because it is so glossy. Does the sz have that problem?

I'm going to ebay my 700m too, once my sz120 comes in.

You know, I take it back. I was at BestBuy and checked out their display model, and it had just terrible back lighting. Why the one a CompUSA's was fine and the one at BestBuy was so bad, who knows. But it really is bad. Like bad. The 700m isn't a slouch, and I love mine, but the screen isn't the "best" i've seen... but your right in saying that it can be miles above the SZ.

Hrmph. Too bad we can't order custom SZ-Ps yet.

So why are you guys going from the 700m to the Sony? New processor? Or you just weren't happy with the 700?

I love my 700m dearly, but it doesn't have a dock and doesn't have any 3D card to speak of.

I used to own a 700M before it was stolen. I want to get an Asus W3J or Sony SZ as the replacement. I went from 17" to 15.4" to the 12" 700M. I love the small size and portability.

I think the SZ 13.1" will still be just as portable and is way cooler than a 700M. The Asus W3J is a 14" widescreen but the slightly larger size will also get an awesome video card.

For me it will be whichever I can get my hands on first.

I went from a larger laptop to the 700m and love it. However, it lacks some of the things I want like dedicated graphics and bluetooth. Not to mention I love the design of sony notebooks.

So the question was asked and never answered. Is SZ or dell 700 better to use in daylight? Both have glossy screens and if I can't use it outside it will be of no use. I tried to get best buy to allow me to take it outside they wouldn't.

The sz screen is no where near as glossy as the 700m, but I haven't tried it outside so I can't say for sure. I will take them both outside tomorrow and let you know.

Greatly appreciate that

Seems like with each new delay - I am leaning more and more toward the Asus W3J.

This weekend I went and saw the SZ-120 at CompUSA and I was not impressed at all. Granted they were not side by side - but I did not think the Sony 13.3" was really any smaller than any of the 14" widescreens.

I will still probably buy whichever is available 1st but right now - if I had my pick - I would probably go with the Asus W3J.

,......

I had a Dell 700m.....

the ammount of reflection on the dell 700m screen was UNACCEPTABLE

the sony has SIGNIFIGANTLY less reflection

night and day difference between the two

I am totally cool with the 700m EXCEPT its FREAKING keyboard. It's too small and even that I got used to excep the comma keys. I am a touch typist and a pretty darn good one (it's my one legitimate skill in life, sadly), and I could never, ever get used to it. The only laptop I've had that problem with, too. That one flaw has me gravitating towards any other laptops with better keyboards, and it's turning into a $1000 flaw.
