Downgrading from XP to 2000?

Hi,

i have an N-series 3010 notebook that came with XP Home Edition installed. i now need to install WIn 2000 Pro because of an extremely important legacy app that needs to run on this notebook, but the app won't run under XP, only under 2000.

i have tried the following without success to install Win 2K Pro and remove XP HE:

1) Run install from within XP - won't let me
2) Run install by booting from CDROM - once the Win 2K setup reaches the screen where it gives three options to select (set up, repair and quit), the keyboard is no longer recognized and/or the system appears to hang.

Does anyone know what the problem is or, more importantly, how to actually install Win 2K on the 3010? Is this a (lack of) keyboard driver issue?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

i found the problem. Evidently the notebook has hardware which is newer than was supported by Win 2K and i needed to disable the hardware peripherals via the BIOS.

See the MS article here:

Thanks.
