Will this HDD work in my M35-S456?

Will the following HDD work in my 1.5 yr old M35-S456?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148073

My M35 came with a 4200 rpm IDE ATA-5 80 GB drive while the drive referenced above is a 5400 rpm ATA-6 160 GB HDD. I called Toshiba support in an attempt to get the answer, but they were of little help.

The interface is what concerns me the most. Are these compatible interfaces? My gut tells me that they are not. If so, will my mobo support this larger drive? Want to assure compatability prior to placing the order.

TIA.

I would expect the drive to work. You won't get the higher transfer rate associated with ATA-6. Also, there should be a jumper on the back of the new drive. My guess is that the drive would come pre-set to be "cable-select". If it were mine, I would try setting the jumper to be "master" first.

Well, I bought it - and proved the folks at Toshiba tech support are not the ultimate source of information regarding their laptops. I "Ghost" copied my OEM 80 GB 4200 rpm HDD to this new 160 GB 5400 rpm drive and it works just fine.

Lots of room too!!

I cant hardly imagine what a person would need 160GBs of HDD space for lol.
I have 30Gs left of a 40G drive and the machine is 15 months old. Of course I keep the laptop pretty clean and do backups to CDs regularily

Well, what takes up the most amount of space are the mp3's and I also take lots of digital photos as well. My backups are to an external HDD.

I had about 80% of the 80 GB HDD filled and did not want to see the performance of the laptop decrease as the amount of free space decreased even more over time.
