Will the 5150 ever get ATI 9600 graphics?

Hi all. New to this forum. I am on the brink of a Dell purchase for my personal use through my company, but I am stuck on the graphics. I want the best LCD panel (UXGA/WUXGA) and graphics chipset. The 8600 is a sweet little machine, but it's quite a price premium over a silimarly equipped 5150 (3.06GHz 5150 vs. a 1.6GHz 8600). The biggest issue is that the software my company produces, and I use, is quite graphics intensive. It tends not to play nice with many 'consumer' grade graphics cards. We have an 8600 in-house for demos with the nVidia 64Mb 5200go. It locks up frequently with 32bit color and WUXGA rez. Downing it to 16 bit helps, but I generally have to truncate the rez to SXGA to get to be happy. This of course makes everything look soft and stretched. The wide aspect panels are awesome for DVD and internet and many desktop apps, but there are other issues involved for me in doing my work.

I am looking for anyone's guess/info on what Dell plans to do on the graphics side of their 'standard' panel laptops i.e. 5150 or 5200 (?).

Thanks in advance.

for your line of work considering downing the CPU for and display for what is most needed. Opt to use the 1.4ghz cpu and WSXGA screen this right here will save you at least $300 on your original configuration. use this instead with the radeon 9600 pro turbo to seriously boost 3d related shading, rendering and etc. running applications at 1600x1200 will not stretch the display as you experienced but this is only available on the WUXGA screens.
