You're using the correct term but that is bad advice in the manual. To prolong Li-Ion batteries you always want to maintain at least 40% capacity.

I have read the same thing that usrbingeek has stated. The entry in the manual probably is a cut and paste from an older manual when NiCad's were all the rage.

The results from this poll are really surprising! I must say I am even more hesitant about picking up a Sager now. Maybe if I was US based, it wouldn't be as critical.

I'm RMA'ing my 8890 as we speak... It simply died 10 days in to my ownership.

this is a little unnerving, as i am going to be purchasing this sager with people trying to disuade me saying don't buy a "no-name" notebook, and i try to tell them abotu how so many people are happy with their purchase.

i will get really irritated if i have to send my machine back and they start opening their mouth saying i told you so.

damn it, why is there such a high rma rate? and on top of that, we should be covered on shipping the first 30 days

Agreed!!!

I really want to get an 8890. I don't think that there is anything comparable to it at the moment in terms of performance and features. But the percentages of returns, at least from those who have been good enough to answer the poll, is, IMO, UNACCEPTABLE!

I think it might be a matter of them growing too fast and not properly checking them before shipment, but what the hell do I know. What I do know is that I want a lasting 8890.

how much is shipping? $15? $30?

for osmeone already over budget by about $800, i would be irritated if i had to send it back within the first month to fix something

I'll be sending mine in during the summer to fix a borked LCD. Hopefully, the replacement won't need replacement.

keep in mind that this isnt exactly a scientific poll, and that the multitude of people that own sager's with zero problems aren't coming here to pass the time...
true, true. i guess people come here a lot cuz htey have HAD problems

hey is it possible to mod the poll with the following:

1) Have RMA'd and will buy again
2) Have RMA'd and will not buy again
maybe create a new thread since it's kind of a different set of questions

Agreed. I've worked in the service department of a computer store and from that perspective, EVERY machine is broken. That's kind of the danger with a thread like this - you only see the broken stuff. When there were tours given of that computer store, people were shown the showroom, offices, production - but never the back room of our service area. We just didn't want people to get the wrong idea of what percentage of systems were bad.

That's why I'm hoping that everyone who frequents this board will post a reply.

From what I'm reading around here, I think the overwhelming majority would buy again. Unfortunately, it seems as though Sager is having the customer do alot of the testing. Not that many are having to RMA more than once.

If nothing else, maybe those who pull the strings at Sager will rethink some of their policies.

Precisely why they're probably about a grand lower in price than say a Dell with comparable specs . It goes back to the arguement of dead pixels on LCD's. If they guaranteed perfection, someone has to pay for it.

Having RMA'ed 3 times myself, I knew what I was getting in to, and I'm about to purchase my second Sager 56xx from PCTorque. Both companies have met my expectations. That's just my bag though... i'm a do-it-yourself'er

I had a flawless experience with Sager in-spite of my triple RMA affair because they always cross shipped the replacement part to me before I could ship the broken one to them. I have never faced a major system failure as such...thank god

I wouldnt base my decision on how many people got RMA's and stuff...RMA's happen, even with Toshiba's, Dell's and Alienware etc. Its how they handle the RMA that matters and so far Sager has been totally awesome and supportive. They did a case replacement for me a week after the warranty expired...superb! I had to sell the laptop and couldnt bring myself to sell it with a broken LCD lid!! Sager didnt let me down...

No problems so far runs excellent

Well fiddlesticks...looks like I'm gonna hafta pass on a Sager for now

My personal circumstances require that I have a stable notebook that I can depend on through thick and thin...downtime would be seriously inconvenient for me. Even though this poll isn't scientific, the probability of having to RMA still seems too high for my comfort level .

Oh well, I guess Sagers are great for gaming, but perhaps not the best choice if you're depending on it for business as well

Nevertheless, I hope Clevo/Sager and the rest, continue their efforts to bring major desktop power to the portable world . Maybe in a few years, things will be a bit more stable .

(But shucks...I'm so sad now...must smash bananas to cheer myself up... <sniff...tear...whimper>... )

(Sorry for all the smilies but my girlfriend can't get enough of 'em !)
