i currently have a speaker setup tahts 5.1 i got years ago, its alrite, altho it definitly is lacking in the sub/rear speaker department. im looking to buy a setup that i will hookup to my computer, probably through an audity 2 zs notebook soundcard. my only requirements are that they be 5.1 or greater channels, sound good of course, give good bass/surround sound, and cost under 300$. my friend has some logitechs, forgot what model #, that are pretty decent, but i was hoping u audiophiles could give me some guidance to where to start. any response would be great!

right now im looking at the logitechs 5300's and the 5500s. the 5300's are exactly what i want pricing wise, but the 5500's are by everyones opinion alot better. im mostly going to use these to watch movies, music, and maybe do some gaming, do u think i need the 5500's?

As far as pc speakers go, I don't think you can beat logitech's for value per $. It really depends on how much power you want. I have the 5450's, which are about the same amount power wise as the 5300's, and I find that they go much louder then I can play them in my dorm room. Keeping in mind of course that this is a very small room. They are loud enough to get me evicted, in other words. I would say the 5300's will go more then loud enough for watching movies or listening to music at a moderate level. If you want huge sound go for the 5500's.

ha! i have a friend down the hall with the 5500s... i myself have my own little system put together containing an akai amp, fisher speakers, and my bass amp as a sub... we had our own little sound war to see whose was louder, and both practically got kicked off campus. i apprently was shaking some poor priests bad a couple of floors up.

but yea, kilpish has a good offering too. id go with them just because they specialize in sound, not computer accessories in general

oh, and i won that little war we had. cant really compete with 150 watts of dedicated bass thump.

Lohitech Z-5500's no question- loud, super sound and really cheap.

Had my set playing dark side of the moon, tables were moving about on the floor. Next time we'll have two.

Hmm... Meyer....

Seablade

PS If you dont know who Meyer is, dont worry about it I doubt you would afford them anyways.

The Klipsch 5.1's can't be beat. I sold my 5300's after I had a chance to hear a friends Kilpsch 5.1 set.

Maybe not the best best....but if I had the budget, I'd get one of the surround systems from m-audio....they are not terribly expensive, but you will definietly have super sound. They make the small satelite monitors now that look like small versions of their bx5's with a smaller subwoofer.

i don't have a surrond system, but on occasion, i play bf2 through my music studio monotrs which are from m-audio......just awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Klipsch Ultra 5.1 - the sound is amazing, the dual 8" woofers give incredible bass!

i was readin up on the klipsch and apparantly alot of people have reliability problems, like the amp goes out on them within a year, i think ill go with the logitechs and sacrifice a bitosound possibly for reliability

trust me your not sacrificing much if anything going with the z-5500's

my friend had that issue with his amp dying, klipsch would fix it four a measly $100..... he just hardwired it to a regular amp works fine. and as for a bit of sound sacrafice the 5500s are very fine speakers. our friend in austin has those and they sound nicer than my panasonic home theatre setup.
