Why isn't there a 14" screen size lappy with a decent video card and resolution higher than 1280x800? I mean 1280x800 is used on 12" screens, why can't 1440x900 be used on a 14" screen?

text would be pretty small with that res on a 14" screen...

I agree...

you are one sick puppy....

WXGA+ would be awesome as an option on 14" laptops, dunno why you guys think it would be too small, SXGA+ on 14" normal aspect and WSXGA+ on 15.4" are both 'worse'.

Someone is gonna have it, since AUO has a WXGA+ 14" panel in the works.

The most likely candidate would be Dell I think, for the upcoming Latitude D620 that's suppose to be widescreen.

As customizable as barebone notebooks are, most still don't have options to choose LCD screen res like Dell.

You can buy your dell ill keep my asus notebooks.

nope 1280 wide is perfect. I dont think there are panel manufacturers who make a wxga+ 14" screen anyway. edit, just seen the auo panel, hopefully nobody will pick it up!

Watching 1280 x 720p trailers on my 1280 x 800 screen is a dream to behold. 1440 is a stupid silly res that is rarely suppoprted in games.

Thinkpad T series have them.

But the t43 14.1" SXGA+ is so ridiculouly expensive and it's only a X300 graphics card. But sure, it is one of the few examples of 14" with a resolution higher than 1280x800.

What I'd like to see is a W3 series Asus notebook with the 14" WXGA+ & X1600 graphics card!

EDIT: Who makes the W3V/J panel?

Why does everyone keep saying 1280 x 800 its not its 1280 x 768. so no games even support that rez natively

I think Asus uses both 1280x800 and 1280x768 panels in the W3.

Reviews with 1280x800 here and here.

But reviews with 1280x768 here and here.

From Wikipedia entry about WXGA:
Quote:
Wide XGA (WXGA) is a wide screen display standard that supports a resolution of 1280 to 1366 horizontal pixels by 720 to 800 vertical pixels. These are the most common resolutions (ordered by number of pixels): 1280×720, 1280×768, 1280×800, 1360×768, and 1366×768. WXGA is commonly used by LCD TV sets and computer monitors for widescreen presentation. The 136x by nnn resolutions commonly apply to LCD TVs while the 1280 by nnn resolutions are found mostly in notebooks/laptops.
I think all 15.4" notebooks use the 1280x800 WXGA, it's only the smaller ones that sometimes use 1280x768 instead.
