Is a alienware worth it?

For the AMD based machines, and some of the other non-CLEVO machines, maybe it is, but for the CLEVO models, you can get the same thing, less the alien case mods, from SAGER for a lot less. Maybe 20% to 30% less. The top of the line SAGER 8890, which is about the most powerful laptop computer in the world, runs about $3200 with all options other than the full 2GB of RAM (which I wouldn't recommend anyway as its not DDR400, at least wasn't at last check). That's really hard to beat. Plus they have very good TECH Support and these forums. Besides, PCT is a great reseller.

Alienware = Unqiue

Goes back to asking, normal family car or a Porshe/Ferrari? Works both ways. I opt for the Alienware and a cheap car, others may see it differently.

When i see an area 51m i love the look. I think it is unique and stylish while still being conservative. I told a couple of friends I was going to get one, and suddenly they said it looked too "unprofesional". when talking about it with them before they said it was really cool and now suddenly they say its unprofesional? i dont get it. i think its sleek and simple. oh well they dont have to like it. after all, its my lappie.

Maybe youre right. I dont really care what they say though. Its still a lot cooler than any of theyre crappy towers.

You got that right Armus, the ONLY person that has to be happy with your laptop is YOU. I would imagine those so-called friends are just jealous and you haven't even gotten it yet. I guess you are just to cheeky for them for wanting something unique and powerful.

Hmmm...feels bad to see someone struggle to make all that money and let it go in an instant. Whatever you do - make sure it is worth it because in the end, if you feel disappointed, and YOU know how much hard work was involved in making the money, you will feel terrible....

i would go with voodoo, right now aw is looking desperate and the only reason they lowered price is because the voodoo m:855 is competition big time

I dont think Alienware needs to worry about voodoo PC because IMO Alienware has a bigger customer base - I could be wrong here...

Prices vary because of the vagaries of the RAM, CPU prices, LCD availability and prices etc. but I dunno if these will contribute to the kind of variation you are seeing over at alienware.

Its a criminal offense to modulate the products pricing and consumers are legally empowered to demand compensation for "forced" devaluation of their products. Imagine, I can buy an alienware today for say $3000 and sell it a week later at the price of $4000 Thats insane!!

If you can pay for it within 6 months, the alienware financing is a good way of getting the laptop now.

Guys, I hate to see people fall for this. The stuff below pertains to the current AW notebook line.

Sager 5680 out benches alienware laptops in all benchmarks. In gaming and 3d03, it gives higher fps and 3dmarks. Check these forums for 3d03 scores and gaming fps readings. This is because the AW graphics card is on a separate board to aid upgrading. Yet you cannot upgrade more than 1 incarnation of card, before the pin compatability changes.

The Sager screen has wider view angle and is brighter according to some (search for the topic on screens at these forums).

Alienware owners also sometimes complain that their screens are far under par, i.e. yellowish sometimes, although I can't say all AW notebooks owners say this, it's just something I've heard on the boards.

My personal opinion is that in the looks department the 5680 looks sleek, silver and blue, if you haven't seen it it has the same sort of colour scheme as the ti68 cell phone. Whereas the Aw just looks like a toy.


I hate to see young kids fall for the AW hype, and demand three and a half grand from their parents, and buy something (which currently) is beaten in performance by a 5680.

In my opinion the alienware is not worth it because the 5680 (which I do not have) costs half as much and performs faster.

PLease read the fine print, i believe it's 22% APR if you can't pay it off in 6 months...which I know w/ my college budget would be very difficult to do...and 22% APR=boo koodles of extra money...so a 3600+ Area51M Xtreme becomes 4-5K debt sucking machine.... ....don't get me wrong, I would love to have one too, but just trying to be realistic in my needs etc. plus AW I'm sure will still be around when you/me make the big bucks...so no worries, u can always get an AW mobile gaming lappy sometime in the future...just don't get yourself locked up w/ a Butt load of debt...too many kids/students/people get themselves caught up n that and super difficult to get out...

and "can't we all just get along?" everyone has their peronal preferences and tastes...I say tomato, u say tomatoe
