I have NO self-control...So help!!

My God. I have a 1.2GPA in Rutgers.
I research stuff online that are totally unrelated to the essays I'm writing at the moment. I failed my Expos class last semester because of this...that and I procrastinate like h*ll.

If anyone knows of a program that locks the access of programs and/or websites please share it with me.

I want only program (WordPerfect) completely accessable. I'm sorry but I just have...urges and coupled with my inability to control myself...I'm not sure how I could get a job when I get of the RU h*llhole.

Also, please keep in mind that I need WIFI so I can go to the dictionary/thesaurus as well as Wiki pages.
So cutting out Inet completely is not an option.

Being a bum is an enticing option but I'll need money for photo equipment and gaming. So please...HELP!

1.2? If your current academic probation isn't enough motivation for putting down your laptop and picking up a book, then maybe college isn't for you. It's not for everyone.

That's the thing..I need my lappie for school. Essays, and such.

lol ^^. Yeah, that's not what he meant. If a laptop can keep you occupied so long, what will women do?!? Seriously, you'll need this little self control for the future. Lacking it is also a type of failure (=laziness is also failure, not an excuse). Just... how will a program help that you can turn off again, just like you can just *not* open mozilla or just unhook the internet, turn off wirless?

People on this forum aren't going to be able to help you. You have to help yourself. Uninstall all the games and distractive programs from your laptop. Throw away the game CDs. You need to focus on school. If you are researching stuff online that are not related to your essay, then perhaps you need to change major. What are you really interested in, what research are you doing for fun that aren't part of school work? I'm sure there's a field that fit what you are interested in. Don't blow college, not many people have the opportunity to even attend one.

I have the same problem as you. I'm at work right now, and not able to focus on finishing a single document that should take me at most an hour to do.

Send your laptop home to mommy and daddy and use the labs. Most labs have rules about gaming and such in them. Also joining a study group and/or a business frat really helps. Other than that you need to grow up and apply yourself to whats important. Not meaning to be rude or mean here but thats the plain, simple and hard truth of the matter.

Good luck!

I agree totally with this poster.

You know what? If you don't have enough self discipline to concentrate on what's necessary, then you don't belong in school. I've seen it happen to many people, including myself. Now, that's not to say you can't be successful in life, but you better get your act together quickly, whether it's in school or not.

You can't randomly ask people for help with life issues only you can solve, especially in a laptop forum for crying out loud. How about starting by asking your family?

If nothing else sell your game CD's and don't buy anymore.......I know it takes a little discipline but you can do it. Focus man

That's the thing. I already told my Mama (:P) about my lack of motivation. What I want to do is take a year off to see what in the world is wrong.

And she went hysterical. She just doesn't understand what's it's like to have no ounce of motivation left.

Maybe it's because of brain chemistry...Maybe i need Dopamine. I just don't know.
And counseling folks, is a no-no. I'm not willing to divulge the details of my life to a complete stranger who by now is probably desensitized to this kind of stuff..

And I think some programs DO help in this sort of thing. I have a Yahoo widget banner thingy in which I wrote something that kinda 'urges' me. Weirldly, it was able to control me a bit.

Thanks for the help, people. I know that I'm blessed to even be able to go to college. I think it's lack of dopamine or something that makes me so...unmotivated.

Simple, you just need conditioning. Get somebody to hit you every time you start procrastinating and you will soon learn not to. Well, it worked for Pavlov's dogs (the technique that is, not getting the dogs through college)...

Yeah, same here.. In fact, I'm going to see a doctor about whether or not I have depression . Apperently depression isn't just sad, it also has to do with being unmotivated and feeling bleak about the future. Sounds like you might have a medical issue, like me (possibly).

Get it checked out, it never hurts to find out.

It could be that what you just need to find something your are interested in to major in etc. Get a change of pace that way. I will second the notion that taking time off makes it more difficult to go back sometimes.
