Hello,

After a long leave of absence, I finally bought a 5762WLMi. Very nice rig, all in all, but there are a few issues with it.

The first such issue is the Acer ePower utility. With the ePower installed, and in regular "plugged in" mode, the keyboard and touchpad got positively HOT, even while idling, and the fan run all the time. With the ePower uninstalled, the palmrests get a bit warm, but the keyboard is cool to the touch, and the fan only kicks in occasionally.

I think the ePower utility "fixes" the processor speed at one value, and at "max" the processor runs at 1.666 GHz and 1.4v all the time. Windows power management lets the clock speed oscillate between 1.0 GHz / 1.0v, 1.333GHz / 1.2v and 1.666GHz / 1.4v. Watching with CPU-Z, I can see the clockspeed and voltage change.

I'm using the latest version of the utility - v1.8.6.053 posted on 2/9/2006 on Acer PanAmerica website - http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/for...epower&pupv=pu

Any thoughts on the issue? I'd love to have wired NIC, etc disable itself when on battery power but I do prefer automatic clockspeed/voltage change I get with default Windows power management.

Or is it somehow possible to make the Acer utility specify the "maximum" clockspeed to Windows (i.e. "Don't go faster than 1.333GHz") and let Windows take the dynamic CPU management from there?

Thanks,

Alex
