Router Problem?!

Supo. I have a D-Link DI - 524 wireless router connect to my cable modem. I have my desktop physically connected to the router. My girlfriend’s laptop and my new one use the wlan. I've been having some unusual issues lately. My router has all the of the typical LED's.

Power
Status
Wan
Wlan
port 1
2
3
4

Well normally the power is constant, the stats is slowly blinking, the wan is blinking fast along with the wlan and port 1 is blinking fast. Now randomly all of the LED's will light up...every single one. Then the will all go out except the power led. Then it will go back to normal as i explained in the first sentence. My desktop will experience a network cable unplugged and i get booted form any game or download. Its almost as if the router is resetting. I've updated the firmware, tried putting it back to manual settings.....nothing works. I'm gona call D-Link today, but maybe any of you have had the same problem. Nehoot, Once i get this fixed ill get my review up of my new v4000t...thanks.

You are either on DSL or Cable. What happens to the lights on the DSL or Cable modem? Are they all lit? Is the ready light flashing on the modem? How is your router/modem configured? If your are using DSL, are you using the router as a PPPoE passthrough or is through the modem?

You could have either a defective router or you are losing the signal from the modem to the router. More than likely it is a configuration issue bewteen the modem and the router.

Try connecting your cable modem directly to your desktop and see if the problem persists. If it does then is the modem, if not then is the router.
P.S. I have the same router and I haven't experienced anything similar.

Now that I remember, I had the same issues with a D-Link 504. The problem was that the WAN jack was damaged and the cable was loose, therefore every 2 days my connection dropped. I just switched it with a 524 and the problem stopped.

Hope this helps.

irishrover - Im on cable, the cable modem lights alwasy stay the same..stable, my router is configed to the factory reset. everything enabled with a wep.

Joako - Everything works dandy with my computer pluged directly to my modem.

Joako post# 2 - If the wan jack was lose...it wouldnt reset the router...just the wan would drop.

Sounds as though the router is the culprit. Have you flashed the Firmware of the router? If not, try that first. This could very well fix the problem

Have you reset the router? This also could help. The only problem is that you will have to reset the WEP. Honestly though, I would suggest changing that to WPA encryption, much stronger security (that is of course, if your router can handle it).

If none of these suggestions work, I would suggest calling D-Link support. There could be issues with the router that you or I are unaware of.

irishrover - Im gona be heading home in a few. Once i get home im gona flash the Firmware, and reset the wep key. Also I dont think it supports WPA encryption. Ill have to look into it. Thanks for all your help, ill let you know what happens tonight.

Sorry, I meant that the WAN jack was broken, but I had to look closer to be able to see it. Therefore the connection was not totally stable. You might want to check it.
