My 8204 has Arrived - Page 2

I would definitely contact the company you bought it from and tell them exactly what you experienced. Let them know (if this is the case) that the computer came this way and isn't a result of anything you have done in the last week. If that doesn't work out be sure to contact Sager and explain the screen issues. They will be sure to help you out.

I just hope it's not their batch that's bad and I'll have to go through this again in a few days. Again, an amazing computer despite my troubles.
Got mine from NewEgg on 2/20/06 with none of these screen issues!

Well, I got my new 8204 from newegg with nearly the same identical problems. So it was ovbiously a manufacturing issue. I called Acer and they had a fedex guy pick up my computer the next day. It arrives at Acer tomorrow. Hopefully they'll just replace the screen.

So NewEgg really has 8204s in stock? ZipZoom continues to delay the order I placed on 2/18 telling me that no one has them in stock right now.

This whole experience has been a bit unnerving. Perhaps it's time to get my money back and go to NewEgg. Has anyone else had these troubles with ZipZoomFly?

I've ordered and received 2 8204's from newegg in the past week. Both LCD's had similar black shading in the bottom 2 corners but my computer is at Acer's repair center as we speak probably getting a new screen.

I just ordererd from Newegg.. but I'm considering cancelling my order. I don't want to have to deal with this shit! eskistudio, keep us updated!

newegg has a refund claim in the works for my first 8204, but they refused to do it for the second one as it appears tp be a manufacturing problem. My second 8204 arrived at Acer today according to FedEx so I'll keep you all posted...

I highly doubt that. Have you tried this test?

Okay, I'm convinced! Why doesn't the problem show up under 10X magnification? And what's the solution?
If you look closely at your displayyou will see every 2nd row of pixels is grey, so this image is highlighting the fact because the physical grey lines in your display alter how the image looks. Basically the LCD is screwing up images in windows, in the bios screen, everywhere. There isnt a solution at the moment. We are hoping Acer will offer to replace screens with one of higher quality than this cheap piece of crap.
Here is the thread on the grey line topic:

If you look closely at your display

I have looked VERY closely, with a 10X jeweler's loupe, and under that magnification there is NOTHING apparantly wrong... all the pixels look exactly the same, each color element is equal in tone & intensity to the one above and below it. This is what bothers me... if the fault was in the screen you could see it in the picture elements, and I just don't. Now in the grey surrounding this text I clearly CAN see it, but that's a rendering - or software in other words - issue, is it not? If the fault was in the transistors themselves - the hardware - you'd see it in a pure white background, wouldn't you?

Also these screens are made by Samsung, not exactly a second or third string company. If there is something wrong with the screen itself, and not just the way Windows or the X1600 writes to it, I'm sure they'll make it right eventually, aren't you?

Ahhh the saga continues. So since my last post the following has happened:

1) Sent 8204 to Acer repair
2) Acer sent it back saying they fixed my issue. Replaced LCD converter board, but still the same problems. I was pretty sure it was the LCD itself so I called them.
3) They kindly upgraded shipping to overnight and took the computer back. This time, they replaced the LCD completely...but the problems are still there.

HERE'S THE EVEREST INFO ON THE LCD:

Monitor Name Plug and Play Monitor [NoDB]
Monitor ID SEC3146
Manufacturer LTN154P1-L02 - Can people post their model LCD!?!?!?!?!? I want to know which LCD to request from ACER
Manufacture Date 2005
Serial Number None
Max. Visible Display Size 33 cm x 21 cm (15.4")
Picture Aspect Ratio 5:3
Gamma 2.20
DPMS Mode Support None

I decided to take some photos of my black corners just so others can see.

My camera sucks so this is the best I could do to show the issue. Ripples are still there as well, but it was impossible to capture that with my camera.

What do you mean "HAD" - what happened to your laptop?
Yep I had a LTN154P1-L02 and noticed dark corners too but my reason for returning it was because of the grey lines, don't you notice them?

Here are the possible LCDs you can get on the 8204:

LCD 15.4 IN. WSXGA+ QDI QD15AL02-01 NON GLARE LF
LCD 15.4 IN.WSXGA+ CMO N154Z1-L01 NON GLARE LF
LCD 15.4 IN. WSXGA+ SAMSUNG LTN154P1-L02-V NON GLARE LF

I sent mine off to Acer today asking for the QD15AL02-01 which other users have reported being clear of grey lines. You'd think Samsung would make a decent panel wouldn't ya? oh well..

Thanks for that info! I added the additional information on the QDI panel to my service request, as they will be getting my 8200 from FedEx tomorrow.

Well my laptop is back at Acer for the buzzing noise and for them to fix the problems with my case when they re-assembled it wrong.

I had the LTN at one point, and they replaced it with the QD.

Ya know, I haven't asked if it was a great improvement when that happened...so, is the quality of the panel that much better? Brightness, clarity, quality?

Just curious. I will not be surprised one bit if they don't replace my panel...

The difference is night and day. Yes the QD screen is way way better than the LTN. The angle view's are obviously not as good as some desktop LCD screens, but QD screen is twice as better as the LTN.
