Hard disk trouble?

Thread Starter
I have a notebook made by a Chinese company called Founder. It's five years old and has performed wonderfully up until now. I tried to install Debian on the system and all was working fine until the system completely froze; so i reset it. Upon reboot, all that I saw was the pre-bios splash screen and nothing after that. I rebooted again and this time the screen was completely black. The dvd-rom works fine and i opened up the computer and could not detect anything unusual - the CPU and RAM was getting warm so they are working. I plugged a monitor into the laptop and it was black as well so the screen is fine. I do hear the hard disk making a clicking sound that I'm not sure is characterisitic of notebook HDs. I'm pretty sure the bios isn't loading; so, is the problem with the HD or the motherboard?

More likely the hard disk than anything else, Laptop hasrd disks have safety measures in place to stop the reader from hitting the plates when the computer crashes but they are not fool proof, you might find that the hard disk is dead.

Try the hard disk in another laptop or a new hard disk in you rlaptop.
