So I just got a Lenovo Yoga 13. This is my review.
As what I primarily do is writing and programming, having a good keyboard is critical for me, which is why a tablet alone can’t work for me, and...
I have owned dozens of laptops in a variety of brands, and had many different laptops provided for my use at work. Without question, this is the finest I have owned. The Alienware M17x R2 is a...
Lenovo Thinkpad W530 Review
by Djembe
One of the longest and most enduring brands in computers is Thinkpad. Originally developed by IBM in the USA, Thinkpad notebook computers are now...
You sure about this? Only ONE per generation/series?
So the 6200, 6400, 6600, 6600MXM, 6800, and 6800 Ultra are ONE card?
And the 7300, 7400, 7600, 7800, and 7800GTX are ONE card also?
Nvidia has done a very good job of offering a wide variety of solutions for notebooks of different intended uses. In fact they release mobile GPU's that don't even have desktop counterparts. They fit the niche's that OEM's need in products.
I should probably clerify, Nvidia usually creates the top of the line processor first (ie 7800 GTX) then rebins the 7800 off defective chips.
The later 7300-7600 are redeveloped (refined) and but not as fast. Then, they take what they have learned in refining the 7300-7600 gpus and incoporate these into new faster card designs (ie 7900).
Nvidia has been natarious for developing their top of the line Mobile one time. Rarely do they ever reintroduce the newer version, but I think because of the die shrink (ie lower costs) they will produce 7900 mobile (unless they have huge stockpile of 7800 's laying around in inventory.
I sell them here and on Ebay I keep them in stock along with a bunch of other dell parts such as bluetooth adapters, Wireless Nic cards, power supplies.
I am an authorized Dell reseller.
Tell you what Bal`thzar. I just ordered my E1705 today. If you'll sell me a Go 7800 GTX at a fair price... I'll try and hack the mod together and we'll see if we can get this thing cooking. Just PM me.
dontek, if by "fair price" you mean the same price everyone else pays... then i'm sure he'll sell you one. the guy does have overhead when he sells them.
Can someone that has their E1705 already please confirm if this stand-off (marked in yellow) is easily removable? (does it unscrew from the underside of the mobo, etc...?)
I photo-chopped a pic of the installed GTX over a pic of the installed vanilla 7800 and this appears to be the only physical hiderance to installing the GTX. (assuming the previous info in this thread is accurate in stating the screw holes align {this looked correct from my photo-choping, although it was hard to tell cause the aspect ratios of the photos were a little off} and hoping the PCIe connector lines up) I am of course discounting any heatsink/heatpipe physical-problems, but if I can get the GTX in the slot, I'll deal with that after I figure out if there are any soft-problems {BIOS & Drivers} )
dontek... we already released this... but the peg you marked in yellow is the key problem, not the red one. From what I see the red one will just clear the shape of the 7800GTX... the yellow one will not.
I've asked if someone would remove their mobo and flip it over to see if it's just screwed in thru the bottom... but no takers yet.

he knows that the mark in red is not the big problem, that was a mark that i put on the pic when i posted it, he just used that pic to show the other peg and then put that one in yellow, so i think he knew that the red one was not the problem.
i believe the 7800 GTX Go senario is mute right now. it looks as though that dell/nvidia will stop using 7800 series card, and 7900 series cards will be out shortly.
simply wait and see what the new 7900 GTX/GT/Norm Go cards look like before doing anything to your 9400s
The geforce 7900 go will be one piece of graphic card because its size, heat reduction, and performance increase. Check out the desktop review at tomshardware.

The supposed Dell release of ForceWare 83.60 drivers which include support for the Geforce Go 7900 series looks promising. I wonder how long in reality we will be waiting for this card. Could be April on the mobile part, could be months...
...guess time will tell.
Being that the new process will be much more efficient, it may negate the necessity for power modifications (battery, A/C block, BIOS), or even the necessity of a different heatsink …and that’d be dope.
Anyone else notice the Geforce Go 7800 just magically disappeared from the video options list of the E1705 today..? Hopefully this means the Go 7900 is going to take it's place sooner than later.
Now I don't know if I'm happy I got the Go 7800 into my order before they removed it or not..?
All now have a 7800gtx installed in a Dell inspiron 9400.
Bios Does find it!
Will be posting detail's up here soon but just got Just under 4000 with Dell drivers no overclock!
System did take a bit of modding, but nothing to drastic!
