you could use a 130w psu, but right now I am thinking 400/1000 spec of 1.3 volts the 90w will be enough. i have my 7800 running 1.3 volts at 470/900, dont have power problems. i think the overall system drain is lower than the xps system so the 130w psu wont be needed.

oo so who's gonna try and fit one of those things into their system

i am sorta working with balathzar to try this out. he is awaiting confirmation if the scews have the same placement.

if i get it and it works, anyone want a 7800 go, capable of running 450-480 gpu on 1.3 volts, 365 on 1.1v, havent tried 1.2v yet.

Yeah, then we can overlock our FSB and CPU!! that would be awesome!

On 1.2V I can go up to about 430 core

I will be receiving my 9400 next week and i'm reading this very carefuly. It would be an awesome mod to the 9400 if we could make it work.

Keep up the good investigation

I'm 99% sure it's the same form factor. Dell will not change the design if there is no need for it. The only difference is that the video card on the 9400 doesn't have a small dent to allow space for the memory slot. They put both slots underside, wich is good.

By the way, I have my X600 (wich is identical to the 7800 GTX in size and shape) lying around in the case someone want's to try it.

if this works i can't wait to see some benchmarks, dual core + gtx. I'd buy it, if the modding isn't too difficult

ok from what I gathered from a conversation with a tech the screw holes are in the same place but whether it will fit or not he wasn't sure

Bal'thzar... the mounts and heatsinks line up just fine. The problem is the plug on the bottom of the card and the socket on the motherboard were moved to the left a lil bit - judging from the pics I saw in other threads.

Have one of these guys take out their video card and take a 640x480 picture of the bottom of the card. Have them take the picture where the edge of the PCB is at the left and right edges of the picture. Then do the same with one of your cards and post them both of here to compare the pictures.

That will answer if it will "fit". Then the harder part will be hoping the BIOS will recognize the card, which Dell is good about limiting the items recognized - and there is no Core Duo XPS BIOS available to compare/hack/extract from.

look at the picture at dell, see how the screw hole is even with the connector? i could just be misjudging but it looks like it is placed exactly the same.

balthazar perhaps when i get home i should give you exact measurements of the 7800 card?

its always nice to see everyone coming together to achieve a common goal ! lol

any updates? If this able to happen, bye bye desktop, hello Dell 9400
post #37 of 259
Someone take apart their 9400 and remove the video card. Then take a picture of the motherboard. That can be compared also.
would the pics in this post help any?

If the video card in that pic was removed it would be perfect for comparison to a 9300... but with the video card in it's kinda useless.

I have a T41p and when I tried to upgrade the wireless card, the machine refused to boot. I had to get an IBM branded card.

Dells are fairly open in that sense. I've put a 7800 GTX on my D810 and it worked without any hassles.

It's consumer models what gives people trouble.
