Thanks for the mention though! I was the original one to get the 6800 Ultra into a 9300, but someone took the cred for that also! my fault probably to slow at posting!
Whoa, whoa whoa there sparky.

I wasn't trying to take credit, or else I wouldn't have mentioned you in the initial sentence of the post. I gave you full credit. I was merely making a thread that could be utilized for the installation of the specific mod, something you hadn't done yet at the time. Just thought I'd clear that up. I deleted the thread however.

And yes, my card that arrived was bunked. Hopefully will be getting a replacement soon.

bought a card on ebay for about $ 370 shipping included (US-Belgium).

first impressions, it works great, only fan is spinning alot louder than with that X1400

Had about 2 hours work on it, that peg was a pain in the a.. to remove.
rest worked great.

will post results later.
Batterytime is reduced a bit, will test later also.

Belgium resident here also, and a Dell 9400 owner for a couple of months now. My thoughts about all those upgrade on a new system:

I've OC'd a bit, and played F.E.A.R and Half Life 2, everything full open.
And now Tombraider Legend, again all features activated open and even on 1920x1200 which was available in this game.

Everything works fine, fast, no hickups.
Great machine, also for gaming.

For now, I don't need a GTX or 7900 whatever card.
I will wait one or two year and see what's available. Then I will upgrade ... at nice prices ...

But your running a 7800go already which is a very good card in its own right.
This GTX swap is a good viable upgrade for those of us with the ATI card, which dell likes to say is on par with the 7800go...

90 watt powersupply is not enough, need to upgrade to 130 watt.
card gets to hot, can't complete full 3D03-05-06 test.

bummer

True Zolutar.

Found the problem.
had to modify the fan, and the metal touched the fan itself so it couldn't spin.
fixed, and working more than great now...
Will any 130watt powersupply fit ?
like this one = 130watt

i also have to 7800go, so no need to upgrade
one thing i was hoping tho. that the next get 8xxxGo cards fit!!

that will prompt me to upgrade :P

Mad Gamer, yes, any Dell 130W power supply will work. Just find the cheapest Genuine Dell brick on Ebay.

Man, I really wish that one of these cards(6800/7800) would fit in the E1505. It's a shame that we're stuck with the x1400 and can't upgrade at all. I hope one of these days Dell will hear what it's customers are saying and build a 15.4" laptop with a good graphics card. I mean at least give us the option of a x1600/7600 if not a x1800/7800. I mean my x1400 isn't that bad once it's overclocked, but it's no match for even a 6800go.

Maybe I'll have to upgrade to a E1705 one of these days. The size is really the biggest thing keeping me from it right now.

Dell E1705 Go 7800 GTX

Does the Go 7800GTX upgrade on Dell E1705 void my warranty.

I first try to install the Go 7800GTX first on a Dell E1705 with the intel graphics card but the motherboard has a some adapter over the pci express for use of the monitor cable and the card can't fit inside. The intel graphic card don't have the adapter for the monitor cable.

I buy then a new Dell E1705 go 7800 on ebay with a 3yr warranty and sold the Dell E1705 with intel graphics.

I don't want to void my warranty because if the go 7800 card is damaged in the future I supposed to get the new Go 7900 as replacement when available.

If my warranty can be void with the upgrade I preffer to wait for the Go 7900 and sell my Dell Go 7800GTX.

Does anyone know if the warrant can be void?

My computer:

Dell E1705, T2500, 1GB DDR255, 80GB7200, 17" UXVGA, 8xDVD+-RW, Intel 3945 Wifi, Bluetooth, 1-year warr.

Dell E1705, T2600, 2GB DDR 667, 100GB7200, Go 7800, 17" UXVGA, Intel 3945 Wifi, Bluetooth, 3-year warranty

what about a 7900 gtx upgrade for our machines
post #236 of 259
When you have to modify the motherboard by soldering, I think you can be fairly certain that the warranty will be void. However, the 7900 GTX will probably fit without voiding the warranty (probably - nobody has tried it yet because it has only just come out).

I am trying it, I decided the 7800 gtx swap was too obtrusive, already talked to dell spare parts, availability for the 7900 gtx is 2-3 weeks away yet, I am willing to wait, I suffered with a 4200go for long enough, whats another month or 2 lol
post #238 of 259
The 7900 GTX is going to be the best idea. Really this 7800 go is pretty awesome. I am ripping through HL2 without a hiccup. It plays NFS:MW easily as well. So really I got no complaints. All in all it is a great machine. Once Merom comes out I will be one REALLY Deller...

Thought the M90 is really, REALLY tempting with me going over seas for two years and the fact they will honor the warranty in Germany.

Did they give you a price on the 7900GTX?
$425 + shipping, it is available, but not in stock for 2-3 weeks yet, so they wont let you order it till they get stock. A good indicator would be when the new 1710's start to ship, which looks like around May 12
