Acer Bluetooth Button but no BT

Thread Starter
I just got an Aspire 3620 the other day. I was curious about the fact that there is a Bluetooth enable/disable button on the chassis but no Bluetooth device installed. I took the laptop apart and found a plug on the motherboard labeled "Blue1." It is a 4 pin plug near the USB ports. This is obviously for a Bluetooth module. Does anyone know what module will work here?
Getting the module may not work unless the laptop already have an antenna installed and the antenna cable already routed to the module location.

Bluetooth module upgrade install

Please let us know if anybody knows where to get the bluetooth module and has successfully added it in. I bought the 1642 WLMi thinking it was already there since the button and icon was visiable on front of case. Thanks.

I think an internal BT module will work. Most of these modules have built-in antennas (like most USB BT adapters).

My guess is that these laptops take simple USB based module since the connector for it is 4 pins and the fact that the connector is mounted next to the laptop's USB ports. I have looked everywhere and I can't seem to find any info on this.

I'm hoping there's someone out there that has an Acer laptop with built-in bluetooth who happens to have taken the laptop apart. Maybe that person can confirm that the module has 4 pins. Then we just need a part # and a place to order from.

Yes, I have been looking all over for the internal bluetooth adapter for my Aspire 9500. Please let me know how to find the correct part.

I use my GSM that have bluetooth as a remote control for my PC, and it's very usefull for different players.
I've got Acer TravelMate 4272 with Bluetooth button, but not bluetooth too and I've got to use my old USB dongle.

I ordered the bluetooth module, got it today and totally dismantled my Aspire 5003 to discover that I didn't have the cable . The company I bought the module from is shipping one which I'll recieve next week. I've heard stories about how hard it is to dismantle an Acer - a load of crap if you ask me. Quite easy if you're just patient enough, no broken things and everything was put together rather smoothly. The module was quite expensive, about $65 in Sweden with 25% VAT. But hey, it's worth not having an ugly dongle... I'll do an update when I get it working!

I use BT for talking on skype. My built in BT recognizes my headset so I can talk while walking around in the house. It's pretty cool!

To all ACER 3620 USER'S..., the Notebook does Have an Internal BT, although the Button dosent Make it work on or off ( still didnt figure a way to) But u can control ur BT device on & off Through the epower Managment software, the Moment u choose BT ON the BT button turn's on BLUE.., & then the antena can be detected & u can instal the Driver for it lol , & u can control it from there either u want it on when ever u will send or receive somthing via BT. LOL

Having a 3624 AND a 1694 I can tell you that when you don't have a Bluetooth module as a standard feature you don't have the option to turn the bluetooth "On". Quite honestly Acer wouldn't install a component that costs them money, that they can charge for, that they can brag about, and then disable it.

I would ABSOLUTELY love to get ahold of the numbers for working modules for my models though!

ps, there is a post where someone added a module on a different model though.

Well, mine's working now - got the correct cable and now I've got BT in my Aspire 5003. Works great and it's a much better BT module than my old D-Link dongle that just keeps loosing conn after a while. Besides, it's perfect to be able to disable BT with just a press of a button instead of doing it in XP.
Well I have an Aspire 3624WXCi, and an Aspire 1691WLMi. I'll try installing the drivers you mention for the 3620 you mentioned, but I HIGHLY doubt that it came with one that's disabled.
Yeah, I gave up looking for the part I needed. I did a custom internal install with a bluetooth dongle. Good luck to the rest of you.

I recently purchased an Acer Aspire 9410. Even though there is a bluetooth activation button, there is no bluetooth hardware included. The Acer website specifies that Bluetooth is included. http://global.acer.com/products/notebook/as9410.htm

I contacted Acer and received the folloing reply from "Blayn Scott"Blayn_Scott@tx.acer.com

"Thank you for contacting Acer America. I apologize for the delay in
responding to your inquiry. Although there is a button on the notebook for
Bluetooth, the Aspire 9410 models that ship in the US and Canada do not
ship with a Bluetooth module on the motherboard. Therefore it does not
support Bluetooth as it ships. If you push the BT button you should see No
Device on the screen. In order to get Bluetooth, you will need to purchase
a third party device such as a USB to Bluetooth transceiver, or other
external device that provides Bluetooth capabilities. These type of
devices are available at most computer shops that sell options and
accessories for notebook products. We do not plan to implement an option
to install a Bluetooth module on the motherboard. I hope this information
is helpful."

This seems to be a simple case of intentional marketing deception.

Ask if this is right for you first.

I have an Aspire 5102 and I bought from this guy in ebay but this module only works with one device at a time. So, if you plan use it with many devices (keyboard, mouse, cell, etc) better ask him if it will work that way.

If a laptop does not include Bluetooth, often a manufacturer would put a blanking plate instead of a switch. In contrast, nearly all the Acer laptops come with a physical momentary action switch whether a module is installed or not.

If there is a module, the blue light should toggle on/off when the switch is activated or when the Acer ePower utility is used. The device would have to be disabled in Device Manager for it not to have been picked up and its drivers installed.

As far as the product description or specification is concerned, there's quite a variation in the Acer's portfolio, not only from country to country but also from one month to the next and within a range of model numbers.

For example, the model number "TravelMate 6463" doesn't give you the full specification. So one website listing a "TM 6463" may have a slightly different machine in stock compared to another listing a "TM 6463". The screen size, resolution, fingerprint reader, bluetooth module, installed memory, processor speed, optical drive, etc. can be different.

What shown on the Acer website in the pricelist PDFs is more accurate. In the case of my machine, the complete specification can only be found by refering to it as an "Acer TravelMate 6463WLMi_WSXGA+_FP". Although "TM 6463WLMi" is a current model, it's not the same spec as mine was!

It's not just Acer that do this of course. Check the full spec. before purchase.
