Just wanted to know what everyone thinks about the new macs and which one you guys wanna buy. Personally I want to buy a Macbookpro However I would really like to get a 17inch model just because i'm use to a 17 inch display on a laptop. However the Macbookpro is what I wanna get

I like both the MacBook Pro and Mac Mini so I am a bit torn between the two. But, I did end up voting for a MacBook Pro. I think Apple should make the built in camera optional, it'll probably increase sales. Because, not everyone are allowed to have cameras at their work (gov't).

Actually I realize that I forgot to put the New Imac in, so if anyone wants to vote for an imac you can just write your vote in a reply. :-) thanks for your participation guys

I'd go for the new iMac. The Macbook has a little growing left to do, and the Mini is (and always has been) overpriced for what it is.

wow! I actually agree with something FTD said for a change!

Mac Mini - not desireable in base config. options quickly add up.

iMac - don't like the design much. i am sure its a good computer for office work, just not for me.

MacBook - big step up from ibook and powerbook, however i would not pick up a copy at this time. a revision is in order to iron out all of the bugs that come naturally with the first version. that and...have they added a 2nd mouse button yet?

technically speaking a ppc is 100 light years ahead of x86. THe "old" powerbook with ppc is " better " than the x86 one

I'm going to guess we might see something as early as the end of march/beginning of april (30th anniversary). If not then, I'm assuming it won't be released until the summer (june 06, complete intel lineup).

What is your reasoning behind this?

not from a consumer stand point.

lets compare. old powerbook to my uniwill.

both laptops are just over 15" widescreen. pb is a tad lighter and thinner.
PB $2300 in a comparable config to my $1600 uniwill. Specs are ideally the same. While the PB gets a ~1.6 G4, the Uni gets a 2.0ghz AMD64. both get a gig of ram and ATi 9700 cards, and a 60gb hdd. Both get wifi and a cd burner. Ideally the hardware will perform absolutely the same in most tasks, the difference: $700.

The MacBook gives you a substantially better bang for the buck. still not at "market average" but apple refused "to be average" even if it kills them. So in this terminology, for the consumer who is looking at THE BOTTOM LINE the MBP is a better deal than the PB ever was.

One of the reasons Apple dropped IBM was the performance (or rather the lack of) of the Power PC, so claiming it is superior to x86 is simply not the case. This is borne out by the performance of the new MacBook Pros and iMacs, where the formerly sluggish OS X is now nice and snappy.

PowerPC is superior to x86. The reason for the lack of performance is because IBM saw a better market in chip designs for game consoles over Macintoshes.

A chip for a game console only needs to be designed once and will have a lifespan of at least 5 years and will sell upwards of 20 million units if not much much more.

A chip for a computer needs to constantly be redesigned and upgraded and, because IBMs only real customer of G5 chips was Apple and because Apple only sells around 1-2 million computers a year, IBM just didn't see the need to keep updating the chips as aggressively as they said they would.

The PPC architecture is much cleaner and has no legacy crap in it like x86 and it has a lot more general purpose registers. All these add up to a much better, more future proof chip, but even the most advanced technology will become yesterday's news if it's not updated.

i've always wanted to get a mac notebook

I love the new Mac Mini and MacBook (hate the name though ) .. if they made a 12" MacBook with all/most of the features of the 15" I'd be all for it. I think I want my next laptop to be smaller than my PowerBook. As it stands my next Mac will probably be a Mini dedicated to a home theatre type of setup - though not for a few years!

Definitely waiting for the 12"/13.3" Macbook, but if it disappoints I'll end up getting a 12" Powerbook instead. I've waited 6 months already, but I'm only willing to wait until Sept otherwise I'm buying clothes!

*I hope they release a bonus deal for the 30th aniversary*
