DuoCore vs. Pentium M

Thread Starter
I'm looking for a laptop and I don't understand why the Pentium M's in the XPS cost more. Is it just that the XPS offer desktop-like performance? Or is the DuoCore underdeveloped at the moment (only offering up to 2ghz)? Basically, how come the higher end models offer the pentium M while the Insipiron has the latest technology?

Anyone know any batter life information on the Inspiron?

Core Duo actually goes to 2.16 GHz ATM. (2.33 in Q2/Q3). XPS has the 7800 go GTX which gives ~50% more graphics performance than the 7800go in the I9400/e1705.

Basically the reason you cant get a dual core xps (or a 14 or 12in for that matter) is that production hasn't ramped high enough to meet demand for the core duo, and that everyone needs to reduce inventory on regualr ol P-Ms. Also, it is speculated that the core duo xps is awaiting the 7900 GO (GTX?).

Battery life depends a LOT on what you're doing and which inspiron you're talking about.... so range is ~1-6 hours....

No, the XPS has the nVidia 7800GTX GO in it, which offers 30% better performance than the nVidia 7800 GO (which is in the Inspiron model), not 50%.

Core Duo would be the ultimate way to go really. If you're a hardcore gamer, the 7800 GO should be able to handle pretty much all of the stuff you throw at it, and soon there's going to be games and applications released that work better with Dual Cores, so it'd be a smarter move to buy an Inspiron Core Duo right now.

Basically, it's about your needs. If you're a multitasker - buy the Inspiron dual cores. If you're a gamer, dont buy the XPS yet since it's going to be obsolete soon, wait for the newer line to come out. If you arent a hardcore gamer, but you still game quite a bit, go for the Inspiron model IMHO.
