Inverter and MoBo Question

Thread Starter
Hey all,

I have a 9860 problem that might be an "inverter" or a MoBo problem...a few questions for the God's...

Thanks to answers in another thread on my problem, it might be an "inverter" problem...but, I have a few questions about that

- Would a bad inverter cause an external monitor not to work?
- Would a bad inverter cause a system to not boot up (not only does the screen appear dead but the system does not boot...HD light is active for about 20 sec. only)

Just trying to figure out if it is a bad inverter or Mobo....thanks!

I'm not "God" in any sense, but a simple common sense dictates
the "No" answer to both of Your questions

The same common sense says that there may be other reasons
causing the problem, except corrupted mobo.

For example, 2 days ago I replaced BIOS v.202 by v.204 in my 4750.
The result was that the laptop failed to boot both from HDD
and CD! So there seemed to be no way to return to old good BIOS version!
After my panic passed away, I discovered that if one sets DEFAULT settings
in BIOS (POST was runniing OK, so I was able to change BIOS setting),
then laptop boots OK! Of course, I replaced the buggy
new BIOS with the old one as quickly as I only could
immediately after boot up.

That's what you're exptected to do after a BIOS upgrade, namely, load defaults settings, I do not see the reason of your panic.

Always set "default settings" when flashing a new BIOS.

In fact I've NEVER set manually "default settings" before, thinking that
after flashing they are "default" automatically. And everything was OK
with all versions, except 2.04. By the way, the only thing I've made
in BIOS was changing boot order to CD--HDD--Removable media.
I've done this with other BIOS versions too and everything was OK.
This time laptop failed to boot at any boot devices order.
