Thx for the quick reply. BTW, is there any fixes to any 5672 problems? ( just asking since I see people saying that there is some kinda of a problem with the USB)

don't know about that... didn't notice any usb problems yet... only the 'clicking' of the hard disk, do you have that?
and the beep - sound when exiting windows ( don't know where that comes from)...

There is many people complaining about the "clicking" of the disk. I've been dealing with Acer about this issue for a while now, and they say that nobody else is complaining. People, start calling Acer and let them know.

But maybe this is normal? If everybody has it, it can't be a flaw? It doesn't really annoy me, I just haven't heard it before.

My laptop is not making the clicking sound but I will be watching the progress of this issue just in case.

I've been through 3 hard drives on this issue with Acer. All of them made that sound. But that doesn't mean that it is normal. Besides Acer admitted that they all came from the same batch. That can't be good, which is why I encourage people to call Acer and let them know.

I will call them on Monday, but I don't feel much for changing my laptop or missing it for a few weeks... now that I reinstalled XP with all my programs and stuff...
actually I would like to meet some other people with the same laptop so we could really compare the sound. If they all have it, I'm afraid there isn't much we can do.
It would be great if other people reacted on this issue, as far as I know it's only you, Mobilewannabe, and me who have recognized this. (which isn't a good thing).

sounds like the old hdd clicking thing to me,
generally the drives work fine but the clicking can be annoying, something to do with the heads returning to park to re-read disk.

every so often clicking machines have drive errors.

this is just from experience with both desktops and laptops.
I would reckon 20% of clicking drives had to be returned.

yeah, everything works fine, except the clicking can be annoying when working at night in complete silence... So you say that the clicking is abnormal... then I will certainly call and maybe ask for a new hd.

I called ACER today, concerning my hard disk clicking. The guy at the helpdesk thought it shouldn't be normal this click thingy... Unfortunately they will come and get my laptop tomorrow, and I will have to miss it for a week?!!!!!!
WAAAAA I hope these transport guys are very cautious with it... I don't want anything to happen...

Now let's hope these techs at acer are abe to recognize the clicking!

dont forget to backup your data
good luck getting it fixed,

I have not heard any clicking from mine in fact is extremely quiet
post #14 of 16
losing data isn't my worst fear, as I don't have anything important on it yet, only some applications...which are reinstalled quickly.
I only hope that the transport isn't to rough and that they won't make any scratches, ... on it. I try really hard to keep my laptop as new as possible and don't want anyone treating it without respect.

ps: I really hope that this click is a prblem, and that i m not imagining it.

I got an error today from HDD-health: GSENSE ERROR RATE CHANGED FROM 100 TO 99; Whatever that may mean.

what brands of hdd are in your laptops? Mine is an hitachi, and I just saw another guy saying on a forum that it IS NORMAL for hitachi drives to click!!!!
Oh boy... what should I do now? Let them pick it up or just keep it and get used to the clickin?

"USB Problem" - I believe the "USB Problem" is a bug in the INTEL chipset driver which fails to control the USB power when a USB device (ie - storage device) has been plugged in, then removed. Apparently, the USB port doesn't return to a power save mode and when in this state, reduces battery life by up to 40 minutes. I expect there will be an update to correct that along fairly shortly since with the Duo Inrtel claims increased battery endurance.
