I got my E1705, but not quite impressed by the LCD

Hi, I got the E1705, but not very impressed by the LCD. I ordered 1920 x 1200 truelife LCD. I previous owned a Toshiba and its Truebrite technology is just way better.

I checked the parts on the dell site.

1 CF176 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 17, Wide Ultra Extended Graphics Array, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC., GLARE WIDE VIEWING ANGLE, SAMSUNG

However, after resintalling Windows, and I used the powerstrip, it says
Manufacture: LPL
Model ID: LPL0000

Therefore, do I get a Samsung or a LG?

Am I expecting too much from Truelife screen? There is light leackage at the bottom, but it is very minimal, and 0 deadpixel. I do notice some sparkle effect - like stripes on the white background.

You have a last generation LG/Phillips LCD. Having seen it, IMO it is better than the Samsung one that I got with my E1705; but I guess that some people are getting new LG screens that are perfect.

Is it more accurate to check for the screen model with powerstrip than to depend on the specs listed on the Dell website? I'm sure this has been asked and answered before but where can I download powerstrip?

Thanks.

Powerstrip is more accurate, but you can get the information from the registry as well -- see the FAQ (in the Dell General section).

He got an LG. The diaganol stripes are actually on the surface of the LCD, apparently from the way they apply the glossy coating.

oh thanks guys.

I am a bit happy now that I got an LG.

I think the anti-glare coating reduces the brightness a bit compared to the toshiba truebrite LCD, and I like bright screen.

I have said this before..but here I go again I have the Samsung True-Life screen and I think that it doesn't compare to the Sony Xbrite screen or other super bright screen technologies. My display is also a little "washed out". I will probably ask for a different screen soon.

Spider, have you tried dropping the gamma correction? Drop it to like 0.86 and see if the colors still looked washed out.

anyone know how to tell which screen they have ?

I downloaded powerstrip but still don't see how to tell which screen I have ?

Click on the powerstrip in the system tray, and then option > monitor information.

You can tell by looking at the Manufacture and the Model ID

Thanks,
sec5557 is a samsung model id.

if it is a LG, it is something like LPL0000

Yeah I played with gamma for a while. The screen is starting to grow on me but that's simply a matter of me trying to justitify my purchase I assume. I have managed to tweak it more last night and have found settings that I am happier with than when I first got it.

Did anybody else get the Dell wireless option? This thing sucks

I found that putting digital vibrance setting to medium really enhances the color.

It's not so much that it doesn't work, it just doesn't work as well as the Intel wireless adapter inside my 9300. Sitting both units side by side the Dell wireless option has about half of the signal of the Intel unit. Also, the Intel card picks up 2 additional wireless networks in my neighborhood while the Dell wireless card can't even see them. As always, particular milage may vary.
