just when i thought things were back to normal...no sound...i checked the Sounds and Audio Devices control panel, mute is not selected and all appears to be in order. have tried both headphones and regular speakers. i can however, hear the beep that's produced when sliding the volume toggle. this is pretty danm strange.

i can't even get mad anymore....

Drivers maybe?

This happens to me too. My sound will be fine, then it'll just stop working. Usually doing a quick standby->resume will kick it back into working order.

aussie: the drivers appear to be correctly installed, according to the Device Manager

keen: tried it, no success

Have you cleaned your ears lately?

Sorry, but it was just too easy.

I'll see what I can find.

Go into Sounds and Audio Devices control panel | Audio tab | and choose the Modem as the Sound Playback. Then click ok. Go back into Sounds and Audio Devices control panel | Audio tab | and choose the Realtek AC97 Audio. This should reset it. I find it odd you can hear the ding when moving the volume control up and down

Gr8, I'd suggest going through all of those settings to make sure they are all correctly set. For instance, make sure you have the appropriate speakers set. There are a dozen or so different settings that could cause your problem. Everything else could be exactly right except one, but as with a chain, its the weakest link that controls the whole chain.

i've gone through the plethora of settings that govern sound, but to no avail. just reinstalled windows, and all is smooth and working. about a week from my(many) fresh re-installs of winbl0ws, things start to break or work halfarse. maybe i just have a lemon sager. maybe my standards are unrealistically high from my 10 year past of 100% macintosh. whatever it is, it is just getting really old really quick. i'm accustomed to things, the basics at least, to just working. i'm not in a laptap-abusive environment nor to i do things that are abusive to computers. things just aren't working for me as i would expect from a $2800 mobile system. this is fux0r3d.

Maybe try installing the just released January Realtek drivers, possibly drivers in your lappy are corrupted?

I have the same problem, no matter what drivers I'm using.

I've got your precious little sound and if you don't do exactly as instructed, I'll cut the little buggers high notes (if you get my meaning), convert them to heat energy and let it dissapate.
