E1705/i9400 + Creative Audigy NX results in intermittent cracking noise

Hi all the Dell laptop users, I was wondering any of you have the same hardware combination, and you are experiencing something similiar to that.

I have upgraded the driver to the newest one, and also I went through all 6 USB ports, and still I can hear the cracking / pop noise during the song / video play like every once 1 ~ 2 min, sometimes it can be 20 sec.

This is extremely noticeable when going from stop to a play state always begins with a pop noise.

Could I get a faulty laptop unit?

thanks

i didnt get the nx yet, i have heard that usb sound cards sometimes get poping. i would suspect the popping may be an issue if the card is running usb 1.1 not 2.0.

let me know how the sound card is, i was tempted in getting due to the fact i emailed creative and they dont plan on making express card sound cards..

Hi, Stukov.

I have made sure that I upgraded to the latest driver, and I pretty sure all the USB are 2.0 on E1705/i9400. I have already tried everything I could, but still getting this problem.

I do not have this problem with the Inspiron 8600 and a Toshiba dual core that I returned few weeks ago.

may be silly question, did you make sure to diable the onboard sound?

Hi, you will see two sound devices, and you pick which sound device to use.

I do not need to disable the onboard on my Inspiron 8600 nor the Toshiba Dual Core.

I think the blame is the

Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB2 Enhanced Host Controller

that came with 9400.

My 8600 is using Intel 8280 1DB USB2.0 Enhanced Host controller, and it does not have this problem.

so far this is a big disappointment.

Hi,

I run a usb 1.1 Live 24-Bit on my 9400, and don't notice any problems. Sure, I have some crappy mp3's that produce bad sound (digital pops), but everything else plays fine. I didn't disable anything either, that way the onboard audio works when I use the laptop "on the go".

Do you get the popping using the onboard sound card and built-in speakers? If so, then it's a laptop or software problem. If not, then it has to do with the usb soundcard and/or its driver.

Hi, I do not noticed the clipping and poping with the build-in sound card.

The thing is I have reinstalled the creative driver multiple times and everytime after uninstalling, I have used driver clean pro, and install again. And the popping / clipping thing kept coming back.

I do not think this is a problem with my Creative Sound card because as soon as I connected to my Inspiron 8600, such popping / clipping thing will disappear.

I will reinstall my OS later on today, and report back to you guys. Maybe it is a faulty motherboard??

I also have the Live! 24 bit USB card for my system. It works very well and I have no problems with any audio. I use it in my pseudo-dock configuration.

I have a 7-port USB dock into which is plugged my keyboard, mouse, scanner, printer and Live! 5.1. That way I only have to plug in one USB cable and the power cable to "dock" my laptop. I just set the Live! 5.1 as the primary device when docked and it will fall back to the internal sound card automatically when undocked.

Is the NX self-powered or usb-powered? Maybe the USB isn't supplying enough juice and causing drop-outs (could be the NX needs more power than our Live 24bit).

Just another thought...

NX is self powered.

Hi, guys.

good news. After I did another clean reformat, and reinstall the OS. The problem seems to go away now.

I really not sure what I did the wrong the first time, but anyway, I am now very happy.

LONG LONG AGO (think Abit VP6), sound cards had problems with dual processors. Especially the creative Live! cards....something to do with which processor was controlling it. The problem was worked out in WinXP I believe and with the drivers, but its funny to see this problem again. I eneded up having to buy a Hercules GTXP for my Dual P3 rig because the creative couldn't do it.
