x300, FEAR, and 1600x1200!?!? HOLY CRAP!!!

Yeah, I actualy was able to get FEAR to run playably at UXGA. How? Turning down the lighting. As far as I can tell, the x300's main problem is when it comes to lighting calculations, otherwise it runs pretty fast. I can run XGA style maxed out except for lighting (minimum) and 4 AA, and was able to get it playable with x16 AF, I just couldn't stand using AF (just a weird artifact) and perfer triliner filtering. I'm going to try it out at WXGA, but the game runs very smooth at these higher resolutions with the lights cut down a bit.

I personally would rather go down a notch for better quality rather than higher resolution. Everything looks so much better anyway

Yeah, but it still looks amazing because if you look take a look at one of the areas with the metal grate floor, the farther away you look at it with a low resolution, it gets badly warped, which is something AF will not help, only rasing the resolution would help that.

Wow...Thats crazy. I did not even try FEAR on my i6000 because of the hardware requirements. Lighting eh? Darn, I like the cool lighting effets in games like bf2

I wasn't running any FPS programs, but it was playable.
I ran it at medium settings earlier and it was about 60-25 FPS.
Playable by todays standard.

I don't have fear, but i do have bf2. I tried putting the res at 1600x1200 and setting the light and dynamic light to low and off...I get about 9fps...Does this have anything to do with my cpu, or is this setup unique to FEAR?

It probaly is unique to FEAR, but lighting does seem to bog down some games because of the extra calculations, but so does cranking up AA and AF. I think textures are more of a memory thing, and memory speed will help there, while things that require some processing such as lighting will require a faster GPU.
