Dell + Alienware = Dellienware - Page 12

Hereeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee's Commishy!

Couldn't resist laying down one of his patented slightly over the top holier-than-thou almost-but-not-quite AW sly little dig so he can cry "who me?" when accused of trouble-making.

But lets think of the upside. 40% off ALX coupons with a free printer and 21" monitor upgrades FTW!

Where?...neither of their sites have an article about this...you say its there, post the link so we all can see....all I see is the usual speculation, giving that VooDoo idiot as the source...where is the article that says it is done, not the rumor articles that are everywhere

Just remember Dell is a publically traded company and any leaked information about such a merger is not only jumping the gun (if said deal is not 100% done) it is illegal by the regulations penned by Sarbanes-Oxley

Let's just stay tuned and see what happens...I'm pretty sure Dell would just love to announce this if it is in fact true.

damnit ur giving the dell fanboys material!

Something doesnt seem right. All stories are coming from cnet. Cnet got there news from a little troll at Voodoo. If you ask me its like junior high all over again. With the ugly little troll trying to get attention, and the geek squad (Cnet) trying to back him up.

They way I see it, it could be a win win situation for Alienware and Dell.

I think over the last couple of years, Alienware has lost some focus on their roots. They introduced the budget line and when I see a game vendor do this, it seems like they're just in for the money and not for the consumer. (I really doubt Dell will mess with Alienware's configs of high end builds. They'll only kill their budget line)

If Dell buys Alienware, Alienware will have the ability to stop making these systems and focus more on their enthusiast desktops. They really won't need to worry about the budget (they're backed by Dell) and they'll be able to continue their first intentions, giving the consumer the best gaming experience.

Dell on the other hand will also win. They recently made the mistake to focus more on the XPS line than their budget. HP saw this and took advantage of it. Now Dell is around 6 months behind HP. If Dell drops the XPS line and lets Alienware control the enthusiast line, they'll be able to focus more on budget computers and better servers.

Alienware is partners with AMD. If Dell buys AMD, they'll be able to hold rights to AMD and maybe convert to AMD instead of using all Intel. AMD for desktops run cooler, are faster and require less power than the current P4s. It's the ingredients for a company like Dell. They can also use the Opterons to really help their server sales because everyone knows the Opterons can really kick the competing Intels.

I currently own a XPS M170 and have had a lot of problems with it. It really has been one of my worst computer experiences. If anything, it should be the XPS owners that should be worried. If Dell does drop the XPS, what will happen to the support?

This is all speculation but it will be great for both companies. It makes perfect sense to be but oh well.

This is just the type post that I don't get.

Why would you be happy that an excellent alternative for high performance computers has been eaten by a company that can't make decent high performance computers to save their butt?

Yeah customer server will go from crap to shit!

J/K

I love both companies...

Hopefully a merger will work out for both communities.

and then , of course - scanned by here - and all the posts to something that looking like it went down..

My take:
so - what does this do to the Alienware "brand" - no longer High End?
AW purists that would jump ship to _____________
and what DOES happen to the customer experience that we had grown accustomed to ( or hated )

Dude - I just got "Dellaware"?
If it's true, it will depend on the deal. If Dell just buys a share of ownership and AW is allowed to continue business the way they've built the company, things wouldn't necessarily be bad.

But if Alienware is subject to dell management, it's over.

If that's the case, I'll build my own or go to Falcon Northwest.

Were AW to do this, its reputation in the "real" gaming community would go straight down the crapper...and its largest amount of sales are high end gaming rigs...just as it says in the CNN article, and funny isn't it, but there is no mention of this jackass idea there...I assume that fool from VooDoo, who started this rumor, is laughing his ass off...but his sales have yet to go up...Aw has its nich in the computer community, and it is in the high end section, and not the cheap starter PC area
This is what I don't understand.

Dell supposedly wants to buy Alienware because their XPS line lacks the "cool" factor. If Alienware becomes a subsidiary of Dell, it will lose it's cool factor.

I know the guys at Alienware have worked their butts off and reinvested everything back into the business, so if this is true at least the guys behind Alienware will have a decent payday.

I just find it impossible to think that Dell would make a major investment in a company like Alienware, and not insist on operational input at least, if not control.

When Dell introduced the XPS line, they were very nasty towards Alienware, and I believe that nastiness drove Alienware and gave them the incentive to lower prices and continue to offer better and better hardware. I just can't wrap my brain around the concept that they'd sell even a part of their business to Dell.

Dell started it when they sent messages to Alienware telling them they were going to put them out of business with their XPS line.

Dell has no consideration for anything but money when it comes to business decisions.
